Craftsman 4 Drawer Project Center $35 @ Kmart

Craftsman 4 Drawer Homeowners Project Center on clearance at Kmart. Was $139.99. now $35.

It is out of stock online, so I printed a copy and took it to the local store. "Sorry, we don't match our online prices." Sign said clearance $70 so I asked them to check the price. Rang us as $35 so I snatched up the 1 remaining in a box and took their display unit.

The part number on the box and on the price tag was 959304, but I was able to find the "Mfr. model# 92758611" on the little blue $139.99 price tag down in the corner. Everywhere else, Kmart had it identified as 959304. Here it is on the Sears site.

My plan is to replace the top with something a little more substantial and use them as a mobile cabinet for my bench top dp and bench top bs. I've got two complete cabinets for a little more than the cost of casters.

I've got one similar to that. I put my Delta planer on it. However, I didn't get that good a price. Works fairly well, and the additional storage ain't bad either.

I got one of those a couple of years back - my mortiser is on it plus an older drill press. Cost over $100. Works fine, would love to have another at $35 but the nearest K-mart is hundreds of miles away (had to search up to 999 miles to see one).

Did you guys do anything to reinforce / replace the top? I set my Craftsman 10" bench top bandsaw on the top and it sagged a lot. To the point that I thought I better get it off pretty quickly.

I popped the plastic top off and it looks like making a replacement wooden top would be pretty easy.

My top was metal, so I didn't have to do anything. I probably should bolt the planer down, but it's so dang heavy I feel like it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Thanks Burrellski for the information. The KMart I went to had them still listed at 139. I rolled the display over to a guy with a pricing "gun" and he said 35 bucks. He wouldn't look for another in the back room so I found another person to go look and she found another one. Got them both and they then paged the guy, that wouldn't look for another one, to help load them. He commented it was a heck of a deal and wanted to know how I knew they were that price. All I said was "Internet".

How big are the boxes for these things? Can I fit em in my car or do I gotta bring the pickup?

I would take the pickup. One "may" have fit in my Concorde trunk, but I wouldn't chance it.

Mine weren't in the boxes but the cabinets themselves are:
Width: 34-1/4 in., Depth: 19-1/4 in., Height: 32-1/4 in.

I could fit 2 in my wife's hatchback (not that I did, I drove the suburban).

Nope, unfortunately it is a Chrysler Concorde. I could have tied them on top, if it was an AMC!!!

With a new top. is this thing sturdy/heavy enough for a bit of lateral pressure?
Say you put a light weight 10 band saw, or belt/disc sander or the like.
Or would you need to remove the wheels to get some stability?

I want to replace a similar thin metal cabinet that just doesn't hold up.

I think it will take the side pressure fine, but even with the casters locked they are going to want to swivel around on you. You'll need to orient the tool in such a way that you won't be constantly trying to swing the casters around. Either that or do something else to take the swiveling out of the equation. Home made swivel locks, push it against a bench, etc...

Could someone report the UPC number on those??

I'm attempting to call local stores, rather then wild goose chase my way across a 30 mile radius, to see if they are in stock and the website numbers apparently are no help to the in-store employees.
