I saw this on CL and had to laugh. There's no way I would pay $375 for this when you can go to Sears and get a brand new 10" BS for $150 and the 12" one for $325!

I posted a listing showing the ones at Sears but it got flagged and removed.I might email the poster to let them know that they are a little too proud of their item.

I occasionally find some similar stuff on Craigslist. Makes me wanna send the poster a "what are you thinking about" email, but then I never do. They will find out when no one calls about their item. Most recent, ridiculous item I have seen is a used Chicago Electric 12" Sliding Compound Miter saw for $350. That's nearly twice what Harbor Freight sells them for.

Still, its fun to look.

I just want to warn potential buyers who might not be internet savvy that they could pick up a brand new BS for way less.

Then again, the seller might not realize that the price they are asking is simply way too much.

I agree, it is way fun to look. There are many great deals I've missed out on because of lack of funds or I saw the deal too late.

Um perhaps you didn't read that it "Priced to move" and that "We will load it up". I'm sure that thing must way a few hundred lbs easy.

you never know if the poster just has unrealistic expectations or is just stupid or whether his is trying to con someone.

He may take offense for trying to wreck his con job or he may think you are calling him stupid.

Either way, I figure its just best to leave hum alone. if he's stupid or unrealsitic, he'll find out in a week or so with no calls. And if he's trying to cn someone, let any potential "buyers beware".

It's a 10" band saw and (unless you were joking) there's no way that thing weighs more than 100 pounds. I know my Cman 10" BS weighs about 80 pounds with the cast iron table. The stand can't weigh more than 10-20 pounds.

I need to move on from this, that CL listing just bugged me for some reason.

I don't know exactly why, but it bugs me, too--maybe because it emanates greed, maybe because we're picking up subconscious "this is stolen" vibes.

You could respond and act like you just assumed the price was 37.50--much nearer market price, particularly because it looks as if the table has problems--and that they'd committed a typo.

Speaking of anti-bargain... Our local BORG is getting rid of all the stationary power tool displays. The rusted old Ridgid jointer that was on display for about 3 years was discounted from $399 to $359

On the other end of the spectrum, I regularly see post here in the Bargain Alerts Forum for tools that are pure garbage and not worth buying at any price. For some reason, some people seem to feel that if something is "on sale" or just priced cheaply it qualifies as a bargain when it may be nothing more than a waste of money.

I dont think its fair to say that some of the things people are posting nobody would want. Everybody has a different budget, and a different need for "quality" tools. While I would like to be able to afford all contractor grade equipment, the simple fact is that I probably dont need all that stuff, nor have the skills to use it all properly (workin on that). Anyway, I enjoy looking through what people put up. It could be a gem to me.

I'd say anyone internet savvy enough to look at craigslist is internet-savvy enough to look up Sears, no?

It's a market. Smart buyer will look elsewhere. Stupid buyer will get separated from his money no matter how you try to prevent it.

Some people are really proud of their stuff. As an example, a former neighbor had a garage sale, since her husband was deceased she didn't change her own oil. So she was trying to sell the oil for 2.00 a quart, when at the time you could buy them for $.89 a quart.
Some also don't have a clue what something costs. I think she was kinda both, as part of her basis for the oil, was what she pays at those quick oil change places.
Then you have the other type who look for a sucker
And yet another one (that chaps my hide), those that surf the bargin alerts, buy the stuff, then mark it up and resell it. That part I can grasp, but when they try to sell it back to the people who posted the bargin alert to begin with, that is what grates me..

We have a free market economy. If someone can sell a $1 item for $50 then so be it. Doesn't mean I have to buy it. A fool and his/her money are soon parted. I have been ripped off before (and probablyy will be again) but in the end it was my fault for being naive and I learned from that.

Trying to police the internet for con men and scammers is impossible. As far as bargain alerts posted on this forum, if it ain't a bargain to you I would think you shouldn't buy it.

For me the only exception is if I see someone trying to rip off an elderly person, I couldn't let that happen without stepping up to say something.

Definately an anti bargain on that one! What is that guy thinking? An old saw like that ....he would be very lucky if he gets $50.00 or $60.00 for it! He will probably have to sell it a yard sale and take what ever someone will pay for it at that time! eezlock
