Check the store again. I stopped today at my local HD and the tool guy said that they lowered the price yesterday. I bought 3.Comment

All,
This must be a national thing, as they were $9.99 her in Columbus, Ohio also. I got myself three as well (one for myself and two as gifts).
SKU is 292060. I always call ahead to the store to see if there are any in stock (they can check area stores as well).

They finally lowered the prices to $10.00 in the Mahwah NJ store.
The packaging on this product is terrible and probably one reason why it does not sell. Not easy to figure out what the item is useful for until you read the manual.
I don't know anything about the safty of laser lights, but I am thinking this might be a fun item for my grand child to play with when he gets older. The lazer light is neat and it would be fun to play with in the dark.
I got $10.00 worth of enjoyment just experimenting with the darn thing. Not sure how useful it will be but it is a clever design. Every plumber should have one for under the kitchen sink work.Comment

I think I'd keep it away from children of any age... including a few clowns I know in they're forty's. The laser can damage your eyes (cause blindness) if you look directly into it or it is directed into someone else's eye. Take a look at the warning on the laser labels and packages.

The enthusiasm for this kit encouraged me to pick some up on the weekend, one for each of the children and myself.
Before wrapping them as gifts decided to try one out.
Major disappointment.
Even on a smooth surface the holder did not succeed. On a smooth surface it lasted a little longer than a rough surface with the foam adapter but no way could it hold the LED lights for more than a few minutes. Push it on, leave it, and a while later it would drop to the floor.
They don't hold well, they can't carry any weight at all, so they are a great idea that does not seem to pan out. Maybe this is why the other laser levelers I've looked at rely on pins or some other method.
Have I simply been unlucky or these as hopeless as my experience suggests?Comment

Jaipea,
I'd be interested in hearing others opinions as well. The reviews on the HD web site seem to be very positive, but I myself have had little time to play with them. I did stick it to the wall and it held, but did not leave it there for there for more than a minute or so. If it turns out to be a flop, I might look at returning them.

I used mine this weekend to mark the position of 4 inline recessed lighting cans into the ceiling. The vacuum held for 30 minutes plus upside-down on the ceiling and would have held longer (until the batteries ran out).
JaiPea, I think you have not placed the batteries into the base and turned the motor on if it does not hold. You don't just push it to the wall but turn the vacuum motor on to make it work. My only complaint is that the kit really needs 6 batteries (2 for the laser, 2 for the led light and 2 for the base) but all you get are 4 batteries.
It worked so well that I bought one for my buddy who was helping me with the lighting project.

We shouldn't get too greedy for $10.00. My only complaint it that I found the battery compartment cover a bit difficult to get on and off. . . and I had trouble figuring wheter the LED light was turned on or off. The LED light bulbs seem to loose power slowly.Comment
