BTW, I just found out that the mobile base should be included with the jointer according to the Jan/Feb Toolcrib catalog. Just called Amazon and it looks like they will make it happen. So far this has taken a couple of calls but they have been pretty painless and getting the jointer and the base for $321 delivered is the best (legitimate )deal I've ever gotten from Amazon.

Gona be interesting, so far my jointer (2 packages) is showing shipped, with 2 different carriers (ABF has 1 package and Eagle has the other) and a delivery date "april 3-7". I also , thanks to seeing a post over on woodnet, was able to add in the Mobile Base, which is still showing as not shipped....with estimated delivery (april 11-15)....

After reading Chris's post regarding the free mobile base by matching the item w/ free mobile base at toolcrib, I immediately called the amazon customer service hotline and was given a hard time by the CSR on the phone. He said that if I wanted a free mobile base that I should have ordered the jointer at toolcrib. I told him that I have a friend who ordered the same jointer and was given the mobile base for free after calling amazon customer service. He said that he cannot do it and that management told them to stop matching toolcrib. I told him that I cannot believe that will all of the purchases I have made through them this year, this is how I am treated on the phone when asking them to match the toolcrib offer, I told him that they just lost my business. Earlier that day, I had pre-ordered king kong & chron of narnia dvd's. I told him that I would like for him to cancel these orders. Also asked him to cancel the jointer order since it has not shipped, he said that he will be unable to cancel and instructed me to just deny the shipping. I told him that as long as it won't charge me anything I will deny the delivery and have it returned. I also ordered the 694vk porter cable router and told him that this is on its way because the tracking info indicated that it was out for delivery. I told him that I will be denying that as well. Also told him that I was planning to purchase either the delta 22-580 planer or the dewalt planer next week but this just blew it for them and that I will take my business somewhere else and ended the call. I had mixed feelings about canceling the order because the jointer and router was such a good deal. Went off to lunch then to a meeting still bum out with the experience earlier that day. Went back to my office after the meeting and got an email notifying me that the mobile base order was shipped. They definitely won back me business.

Why would they act like "Amazon" and "Amazon Tool Crib" are two different operations ? Or, are they ? Thats confusing, I always thought they were the same. When I called (the tool crib #) the guy was EXTREMELY nice to me, he pulled up my Amazon order (which had not shipped) added on the base, explained to me that the way I should have done it was to include the base when I ordered (to which I explained I did, and when I saw that the price on the base was NOT being set to zero, I pulled it off - which he then said was a mistake on the Web Site), and I hit refresh on my order, and bingo, the base was there. A few hours later the base showed up on the order with '$0.00' charge. Anyways, I did some searching yesterday and found a lot of sites offering the free mobile base, so I do not believe that the offer has anything to even do with Amazon, I think its a flat Delta offer. I even had a local store try to price match the deal on Amazon, they were going to "toss in" a "free" mobile base....but were still $140 higher than Amazon's $321 price.

But in the end, nice deal ! I'm excited about mine, can't wait to get it.

All I need is help getting the saw on the ground, so I didn't ask any more questions.
Just to follow up, my saw was delivered today. The guy did not ask me whether I needed any help. Before I had a chance to walk out to the truck and say anything, he had the dolly out ready to go. He put the saw right where I wanted it. Friendly, first-class service. (I guess I should've asked if he wanted to stick around and help me put it together.)

Not nearly the percentage deal that the jointer was, but still decent. I bought the Delta 28-475X as listed on the site for $899, and the height attachment for about $100. Delta offers a $100 rebate on the saw and Amazon was matching the $100--just like the jointer I guess. Then I applied some 10% off "non-transferable" discount they sent me a couple of times via email; it was worth $100, give or take a penny or two. $999-300=699. Shipping was a steep $175, bringing my total to about $875. I hope my math is right.

I apologize if I veered too far off topic. I am new at this board.

How do you get them to send the 10% off discount?

I had no way of knowing that it wasn't sent to all Amazon customers. I received a flyer from them some months ago that advertised tools. Then I received an email follow up with the 10% offer.

I didn't pay much attention to the first email, offering "just" 10% off of tools up to $1000 purchase (up to $100 off). Then they sent me a reminder. I didn't spend more than ten seconds reading that one. Then, unbelievably, the same night I decided to go ahead and buy a saw from a local shop I noticed Amazon's offer to match Delta's rebate. I started looking for their emails in my mailbox and found one.

How many packages total on the X5 Jointer? I am showing 3 currently on my order. The Jointer Itself being 2 and 1 addition for the base (?). The jointer shows 2 shippers(ABF/ Eagle) , why in the world would they split up the Jointer between 2 shippers? ABF called yesterday and the piece the have will be delivered Saturday. No news on the rest yet.

My situation is about the same, three shipments including the base. The jointer is split between the same two shippers and the Eagle portion is coming tomorrow morning. I haven't heard from ABF yet but it looks like the base it out for delivery right now.

My guess is that it is a shipping cost issue, and that ABF handles the heavy stuff with a lift gate for a relatively higher cost, and someone else handles the other pieces for a relatively lower cost. Just a guess.

Let us know how it works...

Hey guys, once you take delivery, set up the jointer and run some boards through, how about doing a mini-review on the ease of use, quality, etc? I'd like to know just what I missed by hesitating on my order.

                          Thanks,

                          Tom

Ya, me too. The free mobile base included at that price is starting to eat at me. I was soooo proud of myself for not pulling the trigger. Idiot.

The Top of my jointer came Saturday (package # 1 of 3 counting the mobile base). That was delivered by ABF. No problems, no damage, very nice driver, was prepared to move the box for me on his hand truck, I just happened to have my own and did not need the help. Not really that heavy, was able to pick up the box and move it with the help of my son. Everything looks great. Of course, not much I can do with it till I get the base! The jointer base/motor comes by Eagle, so far they have not contacted me to set up a shipping date, and the mobile base still shows as "not shipped", so I am guessing this will be a few weeks before I get all the parts. I will say , the top is clearly stamped "made in China" on the box. Delta seems to be using China for a lot of their tools lately.

As I posted earlier, Eagle provided very poor service for me. Didn't call for weeks and my item sat at the local airport for a week. Based upon calls I made they apparently have a "Residential" departement. I believe they are subcontractors and get around to delivery whenever they feel like it. I really wished Amazon would quit using them.

They have a website that gives some very marginal tracking info. It also gives contact numbers.
                                http://www.eaglegl.com/
Your tracking number is avail on Amazon.
