Are you seeing many Cicada hulls? This has been a great year for Cady-dids here. Every pine tree has dozens of hulls still attached to the tree and 2x that many on the ground around each tree. If there was a market for them I could probably gather a 5 gallon bucket full.

Yes, lots of them. Holes in the ground, too. Need more cicada killer wasps. Neighbor kid collects cicada hulls in a bucket. Her dad throws out half of them every night and she hasn't noticed. Cracked me up.

We can always tell in CT when the little hummerrs don't know where their food id because they are just on the way to you.

I have had that happen to me and my wife when a feeder was empty - hunt me down, get about 2 - 3 ft from me, look me in the eye and motion towards the feeder and then fly straight to the feeder. This has happened several times.

Been trying for years to attract hummers, but only get one or two a summer. Nearly all of the birds have left our neighborhood lately. I usually have to fill the feeder every day or two. I filled it last week and it's still 3/4 full. I surmise they have gone to the farm fields to feed on the ripening crops. Even the lame turtle doves who sit under the feeder waiting to be fed by other species have gone.
