    2x6 challenge?

Not exactly construction lumber but it was inspired by the whole Challenge thing. I found a 5/4 thick by 5” piece of cypress that I had misplaced awhile back. The box is 6”x10” and 3” tall. The bottom or the box and tray are 3/16” birch ply. It’s still a work in progress. I’m bouncing back and forth between polyurethane and spray can lacquer. Need advice on that one. Then hinges. I think I’ll splurge for the nicer ones . Click image for larger version

Very nice. Are the corner splines also cypress or another wood?

Unless you expect it to take alot of abuse, I would go with the lacquer vs poly. I like poly for for cabinets and furniture because it gives a more durable finish, but lacquer brings out the beauty of the wood better, IMHO. It's a lot more work, but a bunch of coats of tung oil would make a nice finish as well.

The splines are red cedar scraps leftover from other projects. I think the lacquer has won.

Is that a tray inside a box?

Yes. I’m not finished with it yet. It needs a handle to lift it out and stops underneath.

Does Turning about 300 2x6s into a church frame count for this 2x6 challenge?
