    Name this fastener

    Does anybody know the correct generic name for a Torx (TM) fastener?

    Yeah, I didn't think so.

    It is a hexalobular internal drive.

    Torx is a trademark of Textron Industries, the aerospace company.

      Wonder how many store clerks would know that? Now, is there a technical name for Robertson drive screws - besides square drive?

          Apple started using "pentalobular" screws on some of their computers a few years ago to keep the general public from doing their own repair. Stopped some, but the techies just purchased pentalobular screw drivers.

              A Robertson, also known as a square[35] or Scrulox[36] screw drive is specified as ANSI Type III Square Center and has a square-shaped socket in the screw head and a square protrusion on the tool. Both the tool and the socket have a slight taper.

                  We've got a bunch of hex and pentalobular drivers and bits in our hobby room. The woman is into small and medium devices and hobbies that use them. We mostly call the common six point type "star" bits among all my friends, for whatever reason. I think that's on the fastener boxes at most stores?

                  But until this thread, I assumed the correct name was commonly known, though nobody would have reason to use it.
