    Sad News - Lee Styron

I don't feel qualified to post this as I didn't interact with Lee much on this forum, but I know how important he is to this group. However, I didn't want his passing to go unnoticed.

I've learned on another forum that Lee Styron, inventor of the Shark Guard, passed away on January 1, 2019. I believe his son made the announcement there and he indicated he would continue with the business.

My condolences to his family and thank you for bringing innovation to this hobby we love.

Michael Lee Styron, 59, a resident of Robertsdale, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Mack Funeral Home. Visitation will be …

Thanks for sharing this Paul. I am so sorry to read this. Lee was a trusted friend to many. His guard grew out of a discussion between him and Marc on the old Ryobi forum about riving knife vs splitter with Lee touting the benefits of the riving knife. It was an interesting exchange. As most of us know Lee Styron "Stytooner" has done more to enhance safety than most companies. IMHO his SharkGuard is better than Sawstop.

He was also the longest standing Moderator on BT3Central, possibly tied with Hank.

Very sad news. He revolutionized safety in my shop with his practical table saw blade guard. Thank you for letting us know.

Dang that's terrible news. The shark guard was one of my best shop purchases, and Lee was a valuable contributor to this place.

That is terrible news. Very sorry to hear that. As mentioned he contributed greatly to the safety of BT3X and later the other table saws. My thoughts are with his family.
