    Any other space consuming hobbies?

Just curious, and I don't mean hobbies that you can stash in the attic, but something that needs space indoors to use... For example. I play bass, and have a small rig (okay mid size rig) set up as far as a combination home office / music room. My wife wants to learn piano, and we both, as well as my brother in law play at least some guitar. So I am finding my small 10x10 spare room is getting a bit tight to have a bass player, a keyboard, and a guitarist in along with the desk, computer stuff, LAN rack, and structured wiring rack... I mean it kind of works, but more often than not, if there is more than one of us playing at a given time, we move to the living room and push the sofa and love seat out of the way...

This, and a desire for a larger shop with separate spaces for auto repair and wood working, has me dreaming some big dreams of one day owning a "Man cave outbuilding"... Big enough to do what I want with it...

Yeah it is likely to happen only if I hit the lottery, but hey, it's fun to dream...

As long as we are dreaming...

Photography should not fall in that category, but the way I was looking at it, it might. I really want to bring in a couple of lights, umbrellas, backgrounds, and create a miniscule studio, just to take portrait pictures. I'm no-where close to an expert photographer let alone a professional one, so this would be just for experimental purposes.

Of course, I lost my DSLR camera during last summer's vacation, so now I really need to start from scratch, with the camera itself !

But would be really great to have that nook set up for pictures at the drop of a hat, and keep experimenting.

If I had that luxury, I would be willing to share that space with my painting easel and stuff, so I would not consume too much space for a single hobby. But as it stands, my taking over the garage 100% is all the LOML will allow me.

A bigger garage, or an outhouse would be nice...

I had a hobby like that - darkroom photography. I needed room for a very large enlarger, a large sliding Print and Repeat easel. Then there were chemicals, timers, storage cabinets, a sink and numerous other goodies. And it all had to be light-tite. Gone with the Wind (er, Digital photography). But Those Were the Days.

Oh, and Radhak, I forgot about all the studio equipment.

I so not have the space in my shop to set my rifle and pistol re-loading equipment in my shop. The equipment is still stored in Rubbermaid tubs until space for it is found.

          Where do I begin...

How about our library! Right now the main library sits in what was once the previous owner's master bedroom. It's about 12 x 18 I think, as it's been some time since I actually measured it (I'll look back at my drawings and see what it is). Something close to 4,000 books in there. Then there's my wife's 'cookbook room', which is off the back corner of the main library.
That's 10 x 9 with close to 3,000 books. We've got more books in basement, in the Painted Post house and over a hundred in the TV room.

My camera (a Canon 'New F1' from the early 80's), lens, bellows, and related equipment is stuffed in my closet. The E-6 processing equipment, timer, and copy stand are back in Painted Post, and my FIL's enlarger, print box, and trays are here in the attic. The light box for slide sorting is here in my shop, where I'm sorting and scanning slides.

Our HO train layout I had to give away. But I've still got the rolling stock, four engines, models, track, turn-outs and art stuff all back in the Post. I'd love to get back to that some day.

Our exercise equipment is still at the other house and I have no idea where I'm going to put it here.

The CMS and it's stand, the thickness planer, the jointer, and my portable table saw (BTS-21) are stuffed in the garage next to Miata, which is all wrapped up.

Then there's my shortwave equipment. I sorely need an antenna here, but no trees on this city lot. So my two HF tranceivers, and the VHF/UHF dual-bander are stored away in the upstairs cabinet with auto-tuner, desk mike, key, and power supply.

Patty (LOML) has got cooking and baking appliances that she has just stored away, waiting for me to build a shop in the garage, so that I can turn the basement into another kitchen.

Biggest house we've ever owned with four levels counting the semi-finished basement and attic... but still there's not enough room for our interests/hobbies.

Library, stereo/music, RC cars/planes, Pen turning in addition to woodworking stuff,

. . . not a hobby but storing stuff for my adult kids who are not ready yet to accept their grandparents antique furniture!
