    Without thinking

I was using my 3100 to crosscut to final width a 4" x 8" piece of walnut with a shark guard in place taking all of my usual precautions. As I completed the cut the 1/2" waste did not clear and became lodged at about a 45 degree angle (due to the vacuum) in the blade guard. Without thinking I lifted the blade guard with the saw running. BIG MISTAKE. With the vacuum lift removed the waste fell in the rotating blade and became a missile. Fortunately it hit me in the stomach (where all of my vital organs are well protected) leaving only bloody broken skin. Thought I would pass this along as I was not familiar with this type of kickback.
I am praying for patience but extremely upset that it takes so long.

You were very lucky, could have been much worse.

Good to hear you're mostly OK. Experience is a good teacher but the lessons can often be hard.

          Ouch. Sorry to hear that.
I gotta say that there are a few machines that I absolutely wait until they come to a full stop no matter what kind of hurry I'm in.
Both cnc mills, cnc lathe and the table saws. They can all bite very badly in the blink of an eye.

It still amazes me that more saws do not have blade brakes on them. I understand the reasoning behind it, but just like there is soft start routers, there could be low torque brakes.
Glad you were not hurt worse and thanks for sharing that.

THATS THE REASON THAT I MAINTAIN THAT EXTRA PROTECTIVE LAYER OF FAT ON MY STOMACH!!!!!! to protect my intestines from table saw projectiles. Thats my story and Im sticking to it.

Good thing that you didn't reach for that wood and get a finger or 2 snatched in and hacked off.

My last round with the SCMS snatching a poorly clamped piece out and flinging it up side my head taught me to never ever hold a small board against the fence to trim off a piece and thinking it would be all right. Different tool but same possible results.

What kind of case would that present for always using a zero clearance blade insert? I can't remember ever having pieces thrown while using one.

All those stories have me hit the deck whenever a part gets out of control, rob to the switch, shut it of and wait until all is quiet...

Glad there were no serious injuries, and thanks for sharing. Another scenario to add to the list of stuff to pay attention to!
