I beleve when microsoft says that support will end that means no new updates will be issued. I Think the old ones will still be available on-line.

I don't know. Just try to get help (from Microsoft) on Windows 95 as an example. It is pretty scarce. I got a Toshiba laptop with 95 and it runs great but takes forever to shut down. I seem to remember that that was an issue even back then.

My wife has been using a XP based laptop but its a bit slow and frustrates her with hangups and freezing and jerkiness sometimes.
        Mine says that about me.

No, not really. I just couldn't resist the opportunity to wisecrack.

I may have interpreted it differently, but here is where I read it:

          http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windo...ofsupport.aspx

It means you should take action. After April 8, 2014, there will be no new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options or online technical content updates.

Almost 13 years. Can't support software forever.
I have a little blog about my shop

True, but it was like the second coming of win 98se and truly stable. Solid OS. So far I believe win7 to be the same as xp in terms of stability - at least from an operators view.

With all the young'ins being literally born with some gizmo attached to their digits, I think win8 will be rapidly adopted and if its anything like win7 in terms of stability, it will be a great success.
