I beleve when microsoft says that support will end that means no new updates will be issued. I Think the old ones will still be available on-line.
wife can barely use windows. Should I give her Windows 8?

I don't know. Just try to get help (from Microsoft) on Windows 95 as an example. It is pretty scarce. I got a Toshiba laptop with 95 and it runs great but takes forever to shut down. I seem to remember that that was an issue even back then.Comment

True, but it was like the second coming of win 98se and truly stable. Solid OS. So far I believe win7 to be the same as xp in terms of stability - at least from an operators view.
With all the young'ins being literally born with some gizmo attached to their digits, I think win8 will be rapidly adopted and if its anything like win7 in terms of stability, it will be a great success.I think in straight lines, but dream in curves
