I got bit today... by my table saw. Not too bad, 8 stiches and a fracture of the bone at the top of my right thumb. After 50 something years of using machines of all kinds I finally got bit. Doc says it should heal just fine.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Thanks for posting this reminder. It just shows that one can get bite regardless of experience level.
I hope that you heel with no difficulties at all and NO lingering reminders.Comment

Hope you heal fast. I know it's probably hard to type, but can you tell us what happened?Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.Comment

I had a similar experience a few years ago, also after >50 yrs of woodworking. I, however, was doing something that I knew at the time was dangerous. I said then that stupidity (mine) trumps experience any time. Hope you heal up quickly!

Sorry to hear about your injury and hope you heal quickly. Thanks for the reminder! Reminded me of the time when I almost lost my ring finger.Chris

I was ripping a short piece of pine to a 3" width. I don't usually use a push-stick on stock that's 3 or more inches wide, so I wasn't using one. But all of a sudden everything was moving in super slow-mo and I kind of saw (no pun) my finger hitting the blade. There was no kickback or anything else. What I was doing was thinking ahead about what I was going to be doing next and figuring dimensions in my head. That's all it takes. Lack of concentration and BAM! you're bit. I know for sure there will be a decent scar and I hope it's a constant reminder to me to always focus on what I'm doing when using any power tool. Nearing 70 I know my brain and my reactions aren't as quick as they once were so I'm going to have to "take it easy when I'm going fast." Thanks guys for your thoughts and concern. In my old age I look back and realize how lucky I was to live in a time when common sense was common.
