I got bit today... by my table saw.

I got bit today... by my table saw. Not too bad, 8 stiches and a fracture of the bone at the top of my right thumb. After 50 something years of using machines of all kinds I finally got bit. Doc says it should heal just fine.
In my old age I look back and realize how lucky I was to live in a time when common sense was common.

D am n.... I am glad you still have your thumb, but it sounds like it was pretty severe! How did it happen?

Wish I could say "no photos, didn't happen" and it would make it so... Glad to hear that it will heal, I wish your thumb a speedy recovery.

Good thing you didn't lose it. Did you have your blade guard on?

Thanks for posting this reminder. It just shows that one can get bite regardless of experience level.

I hope that you heel with no difficulties at all and NO lingering reminders.

I don't think those memories ever go away. They can be a constant reminder.

Hope you heal fast. I know it's probably hard to type, but can you tell us what happened?

I had a similar experience a few years ago, also after >50 yrs of woodworking. I, however, was doing something that I knew at the time was dangerous. I said then that stupidity (mine) trumps experience any time. Hope you heal up quickly!

Sorry to hear about your injury and hope you heal quickly. Thanks for the reminder! Reminded me of the time when I almost lost my ring finger.

Jokes, tall tales, and true stories are welcome as long as they are clean and in good taste. I only ask that you steer away from topics on religion or politics. Go ahead and pull up a chair and pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy the conversation.

I was ripping a short piece of pine to a 3" width. I don't usually use a push-stick on stock that's 3 or more inches wide, so I wasn't using one. But all of a sudden everything was moving in super slow-mo and I kind of saw (no pun) my finger hitting the blade. There was no kickback or anything else. What I was doing was thinking ahead about what I was going to be doing next and figuring dimensions in my head. That's all it takes. Lack of concentration and BAM! you're bit. I know for sure there will be a decent scar and I hope it's a constant reminder to me to always focus on what I'm doing when using any power tool. Nearing 70 I know my brain and my reactions aren't as quick as they once were so I'm going to have to "take it easy when I'm going fast." Thanks guys for your thoughts and concern.
