Manufacturer’s Fault
The reason the jury was able to find Ryobi responsible for Mr. Osorio’s actions is because the table saw manufacturer had access to SawStop, the safety device, and chose not to use it on their machinery. Ryobi admitted to observing a demonstration of SawStop by its inventor Stephen Gass. If One World Technologies had implemented the safety equipment in its table saws, Mr. Osorio never would have suffered the disabling injury to his hand.

That's why some corporations refuse to listen any ideas presented by outside inventors... to have simply listened to a safety idea and then rejected using it for any reason, exposes you to lawsuits for failing to have protected the user (no matter how stupid) when the technology was allegedly available.

That's about it. And, for whatever it is /was, there will be opinions on the good/bad issue. I was referring to the point of the thread. I sure didn't want to create a question of logic about the actions and goals of Hitler. I think a more defined path of goal setting might be something like our youth of today setting attainable goals for their future, and doing what they have to do to achieve those goals...like an education, and employment.

As for the Saw Stop issue, some may like the idea of the safety issue. Some may not. Some may agree on what was done to market the saw. Some may not. That whole issue has sides, and it's fortunate that everyone has the right to their opinion, in either agreeing or not.

Well said, sir, well said! Personally, had I the money for a SawStop, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. BUT, having spent all my spare cash this summer on finally electrifying my shop (stealth gloat), I'm gonna be very careful with my current saw.

As for Mr. Gass's tactics, the less said the better.

Around here, lawyers advertise for all sorts of class-action suits: Ambien, Yaz, auto accidents, whatever you can think of. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth. This is not to say that one shouldn't sue when the product is clearly defective, but this "fishing" for plaintiffs irritates the snot out of me.

I don't disagree with manufactures providing safety features in their product but personal safety is ultimately the consumers responsibility.

"Accidents" are typically user negligence and error.

Nah, you had a chance to buy the safer technology and opted to by a "less safe" saw which proves to the jury that your irresponsible :P

Here's my other thought.

So if I have a "negligent discharge" and shoot myself in the foot. Can I sue the gun manufacturer? Or would I be held accountable for my own action?
