Woodworking shows failing?

I just went to the woodworking shows schedule for 2013 and they must not be doing too well. It looks like about half the schedule has been cut. Cities I noticed missing are Dallas, Minneapolis, Sacramento, and Phoenix.

That wouldn't supise me. Sacramento used to get 2 a year. In April and October/November. Last couple of years only one and thing there was one this April but didn't attend for some reason. Used to be on their Email list but nothing this year.

Can't speak for the shows but apparently it's been shrinking in number of exhibitors for a number of years, in my opinion.

They used to come to Des Moines a few years ago. I went one year & the show was pretty good. The next time the show was half the size & there was a noticeable decline in quality of the deals/booths/class choices. I went to a class at the Delta booth & less than half way into it, the guy gave up because the PA system in the booth was so bad no one could hear him. Without the PA, you couldn't hear the guy from less than 10ft away. That was the last time the shows came to Des Moines. Ironic to me since Wood Mag is the primary sponsor & they are based in Des Moines.

You can tell by the blog post Loring linked that there is disappointment in the attendance, but, he's trying to push the positives of the show.

Looks like it's still coming to St. Louis. I went again this year, and things seemed down a bit, like the exhibitors and demonstrators were tired and homesick. Attendance was pretty good the day I went, and the deals were OK. I spent about $100 on little stuff, but no big-ticket items floated my boat.

The Rough Cut guy (Tommy Mac? Marks?) was presenting, but I left after about 10 minutes. His delivery was making me crazy.

I've been woodworking for a little over 10 years and I have never been aware of any being anywhere near here. Maybe near Detroit, but if there were, I missed all of them.
