The Legislature in California suffers from Dementia.
That's almost more temptation than I can bear. Darn, now my tongue is bleeding.

Your legislators solve problems? I thought their purpose was to create them. That's why lawyers go to college, to learn how to screw things up and create legal garbage that no one including them understand.

That was as far as I could go without getting booted. I am a native Californian and I am still trying to figure out where the common sense went. When I was a kid we used to play hide n seek in the Capitol Building when the Legislature was not in session ( it was part time back then)

Heard on the early new this morning, some idiot was caught by the CHP throwing chuncks of concrete throught windows and the glass on the entrance doors. Might have been a stoned legislator who forgot his keys.

I grew up in CA and lived there for 40 years. A lot of this type of thing (not all) comes because California is a very litigious place. The lawsuits aren't as bad as they were in the 80's and 90's, but you'd be surprised what people will try in order to get some easy money. Therefore, a person will see many signs like that one. People in CA actually have common sense, but if there's a chance at money and an agreeable jury....

There are a lot of reason I will never live there. This topic is about one of them.

Our kids are 5th-generation Californians. That plus $3 gets a good cup of coffee.

But this state has major issues. See my avatar for details...

Here are two examples of some of the California nutiness I run into in the course of my day job.

First, special electricity prices for low income customers. No income verification required, no limit on the amounts at those subsidized prices. When I retire I can qualify if all I have is unearned income. Apparently dope growers are taking advantage of these special low rates to power the lights they use in their indoor cultivation setups. The rest of us are funding the subsidy. California might be the only place in the country where you can get subsidized electricity with no documentation.

Second example. Everyone's heard of "smart meters". The name is a misnomer - they're not smart, just fully electronic and they capture hourly consumption. Not having one has cost me about $200 in the past three months. There's been a lot of hollering about health impacts, but many of the same people who claim these meters make them sick have baby alarms, microwave ovens, cell phones, and wireless phones. One writer I know suspects many of the complaints are coming from dope growers who are afraid of getting caught.

I probably can't say anything about "There Ought to Be a Law" without getting in trouble, but that's another of my pet peeves.

That's why here in Texas, our state Legislature only meets every other year... It keeps them away from causing harm quite so much...
