    Career change at 70!

    The scene:
Back in 2008, I got my Vespa and the license to ride it
Since then I have visited, many times, the guys that took me thru my training. 14,000kms up so far.
On one of my social visits, the guys that owns the group asked me if I wanted to become a Motorcycle License (Learner and Full), Tester (not trainer). I pointed out that I turn 70 in April and I was worried about doing the training for the job (which he would pay for) - what if I "fell off the perch"?. He said "no problem". Estimated training cost A$1,400

On March 17 I start my training at our Monash University ("Certificate IV Training and Assment")

The kicker - because I don't hold a College degree, I get get an Oz government concession on costs - wait for it - TOTAL COST A$45

I still have my IT (part-time) job and now I have NEW job.

Needless to say I'm a VERY happy camper

Thanks for listening - I just had to share

      Nice Rod!

Congratulations. I think you will do well! Your penchant for guiding us into correct shop esthetics and cleanliness will work well in testing folks for correct usage of scooter skills and law.

                  Hey Rod,

Couldn't have happened to an nicer guy.

But really, if it ain't a Harley, it ain't worth riding.

A very hearty congratulations to you, Rod. You are my hero for living life to the fullest and not in a party way. I've always said that age doesn't matter when it comes a strong desire to do something. A hearty handshake and a pat on the back from all of us.

                      Blessings and enjoyment,

                        Congratulations,

I used to ride motorcycles but I had to max them out. Based upon the fact that I heal slower in my 50s I decided a convertible was more my speed now. BMW has a new 650cc scooter that looks tempting but somehow I think I would miss shifting gears. And at 650cc, I would have enough motor to get in trouble. Still, 2 wheel travel is pretty tempting.

This is where I'll be "working"

                            http://www.ridetek.com.au/index.htm

I'm also told that some students offer some interesting "inducements" in order to get licences - I can't be more specific or I will break our political rules However, being totally sexist, some of the offers sound "interesting"

Of course, at 70, I will be untouchable (Mr Ness, eat your heart out)
