Where to find century old hardware?

I have a friend who is looking for original cabinet pulls for her 100 year old home. I can google it, of course, but I wonder if anyone has any recommendations based on personal experience.

I don't know about 100 year old pulls, I know that Lee Valley has some 80 year old hinges.

Restoration Hardware sells new furniture that is supposed to look like antiques. They also sell drawer pulls and related items. I don't have personal experience with their stuff other than having been drug to a store by SWMBO.

I was going to suggest Restoration Hardware as well. They sell a wide variety of reproduction hardware for vintage home and furniture restoration work.

Barring that, it would be down to hunting through Antiques stores... And there is no guarantee that any one of them would even have old hardware like that.

I'd start by googling "Antique restoration hardware", look at the choices and then decide if I want only genuine original parts or reproductions.

It's worth looking on e-bay, too. I recently refurbished an old table, (not as old as 100 year, though) and found some toe-caps there.

and tell them what you need, and get their catalogs and and price list.I found their catalog in some of my locksmith supplier info. I have in the office.They are a supplier of antique restoration supplies. They carry brass keyhole escutcheons, keyhole covers, pulls, knobs, keyhole inserts, drawer pulls, latches locks,hinges specialty hinges, and lots, lots more! Hope this helps.

Locally there may be a Habitat For Humanity Re-Store. I've found some great stuff there. There is also a local business here that sells items from demolitions, or remodels. But like flea markets and garage sales, it takes time to browse.

Google " architectural salvage North Carolina ". There should be some great places in NC. I've had good success in finding items for my 1908 bungelow. Take the piece that you want to match and wear old clothes - you'll probably be digging through a bunch of crates and boxes.

For new reproductions, I second the recommendation for Rejuvenation Classic American Lighting and House Parts. I bought the pulls, knobs, and hinges for our bath and kitchen remodel from Rejuvenation a few years ago, plus a bunch of light fixtures.

Try these folks. They have a big selection but you are going to have to slug thrpugh a lot of pictures to find a match. Send them a picture and they will try to match it. It's what they do.
