A request for those that pray...

My brother in law Daniel is in the hospital right now being prepped for kidney transplant. He is asking for prayers for a successful operation, and prayers for the family of the donor.

Believe it or not, this is hard to write... I am happy for my brother in law, but I hate the idea that somebody else isn't going to be with their loved ones on Christmas any more... All I can do at this point is simply say Thanks to the donor and their family for being able, in their time of loss to think of someone else...

Best of luck for your brother in law. There are always risks with surgery, but all things being equal I've read that it's not too bad, and the quality of life improvement can be substantial.

Regarding the donor, I guess I would feel better if losing a family member knowing that it wasn't without at least some good coming out of it. But still tough right before the holidays.

Of course with kidneys there probably shouldn't even need to be a need for cadaver donors with how successful live donations are. If every recipient could bring a couple potential volunteers into the pool I think we'd be able to knock out most of the backlog in a year or two (at least for the more common genetic backgrounds) with the chain/serial directed donations.

I'll be praying for a successful operation for Daniel. The first big hurdle, finding a compatible donor, is already over.

You got it. One of my grandsons died last year, and his heart went to a 30 something year old paramedic. My daughter did receive a message from him, but it had to go through someone else for her to get it. It really did her good to hear from him. Please ask your brother in law to send a message to the donor's family when he's feeling better.

As long as you don't mind them in Hebrew, ya got it.

BTW, Daniel is a very good Jewish name.

I'm sure whomever and whereever the donor is, they're smiling. It must be a tremendous comfort to the family to know that their loved one is giving a gift of life and hope to someone else.

              PS: Prayers too!

He's got the prayers. Glad he finally got the transplant. Too many don't.

To all BT3ers. Have you signed your donation card?

Prayed for a successful transplant. Also, strength and comfort for the rest of the family.

                    Happy Holidays!
