    Maybe Just Another Night

    HI all,

I like special occasions, especially in the heavens.. The next 24 hrs brings us a Total Lunar Eclipse, A Full Moon and our Winter Solstice. Kind of neat. All of North America will be able to view it (Clouds permitting, etc). Starts at == 1:30 AM ET. I know I'll be up, just have to find my parka, mitts and boots.

This is the first total eclipse on the solstice in 300 years, next is in the year 2094.

I thought I'd bring this up cause after tomorrow the Sun will be heading back this way. Yea team!!

Those braving the cold to watch the Vikings play the Bears could just sit a few hours longer, have another beercicle and see it ... if only it weren't overcast and snowing again.

Yes, just seen the last of the half. Looks just a cold there as here. Clear here tho.
I always root for the Vikings, just an old names sake I guess.

Thanks for the heads up, so to speak.

Hmm, first day of winter? I was thinking of taking the day off because it's supposed to be pretty nice here, 75 or so. I mowed the lawn Saturday, mainly to mulch & bag the leaves. A lot of my grass is still kind of green.
        P.S. What's a parka?

Well the rare part is that it occurs on the Dec 21 winter solstice, which apparenrtly won't happen for another 346 years or so I heard. But Lunar eclipses are not that rare, every couple or three years or so. And It looks the same on Dec 20th or July 20, if its at night. Its just as rare occurring on Dec 20 or Dec 22 (or any other given day), just not a coincidental solstice date. So enjoy it another year. There's no real significance to occurring on Dec 21. In the Mid US there was a viewable one Feb 2008 and will be another April 2014.
