I saw a slide rule once. It gave me a headache.

I still have my yellow Pickett. That online one is cool, but there's no brown leatherette case.

My yellow aluminum one disappeared many years ago but I've still got my first white plastic version of the same Pickett and an old bamboo one.

Give me a calculator any day!

          Yessssss!!!

I have an old HP12C and a drawer full of slide rules. The calculator hasn't been turned on in years. I still pick up a slipstick every once in a while so I don't forget how.

Truth be known, I usually cheat and fire up Excel.

I have a 7 foot Pickett that I picked up at a garage sale for $15.

Pickett would send a free 7 footer to teachers with the purchase of 10 or 15 sliderules!

Just looking at a couple of the links on the site reminded me why I didn't like slide rules.....

                  Wow, and they even slide/operate!

Brings back many fond memories of high school when I showed the girls how to multiply and divide with one of them.

I remember trying to teach girls how to multiply. Never had much luck though

was referring to trying the multiplication bed factor.

I know what you mean. There was this redhead in my mechanical engineering class...but by then everyone was using calculators.

Some of you have to be old enough to remember the method of "casting out nines" for checking addition problems. A cheap math trick I remember learning in grade school that I resurrect every once in a while.

I never learned to use a slide rule but my HP 12C was stolen in college and I couldn't afford the first one let alone a replacement

I remember reading an article in the summer of '72 that four-function (+-*/ only) calculators would drop to $100 by Christmas.
