PSA: Review Your Insurance Coverage

if you've had any major life changes. I've been shopping for new home and auto the last few weeks. Along the way I realized we weren't carrying enough insurance on the house, at least not to build = square footage new. It was enough when we moved in, but since the basement is finished now and the new room is there, square footage has almost doubled.

Good reminder. If your insurance agent isn't bringing these things up to you, especially around renewal time, it's time to find a new agent. There are a lot of lazy agents that put in the effort to sell a new policy and then expect to coast on the residuals for years to come.

That was the other reason I went insurance shopping - we didn't have an agent, and I wanted to have one.

+1 on that. My father and my father n law are both insurance agents. I'm well covered to say the least.

Also remember to keep an eye on your auto policy with regards to rental car coverage. Since I work in the rental car business I see a lot of customers who drive large cars/trucks, but their rental coverage only pays for a small car, or they might not have rental coverage on their policy. The amount of $ per year to add on rental, or to upgrade your policy is small, usually around $10 year. It can really add up if you don't have it on your policy.

We covered this last year... Not so much on the structure as it is more or less the same structure as built in 1984, but I have some things that are not original to the house, and had questions... We ended up after going through our inventory, nearly tripling my contents coverage...
