    Crack,

Stop beating yourself up. The kid got less than he deserved. What you were feeling was an adrenalin crash. Happens when you are over a critical physical situation.

Can't tell you what I did in SE Asia, but the first time you draw blood, your conscience gets on your case and makes you feel like you did something wrong.

I was responsible for a "few" VC and NVA not seeing the next day. Hard as all get out at first. But when you put it in the right perspective, you stopped yourself from getting hurt.

I'm surprised that you got that feeling when you carry concealed.

As my dear old mom used to say, "Do it to them before they do it to you".

Don't threat it, ya done good!!!

Now ya'll might guess that I'm not a lawyer nor did I spend a night at a Holiday Inn express last night. However as I reflect back to the Reserve Police Academy I attended and graduated from a number of years ago it seems to me that what you did was remove the threat. That is what is described as necessary. (By the way in my state RPO's have the same powers of arrest and other Police powers as Commissioned Officers meaning the State mandates a bunch of training prior to being sworn in.) You did right.

        *Stands up and applauds*

        Way to go Cracker!

I can understand how you might feel like you let your emotions get the best of you but in 5 seconds??? C'mon. That's not enough time to do anything but react.

Think about the other people you have saved from that punk and feel good about yourself.

After 30 years in the job, you followed the golden rule we live by:

Go go home at the end of the day.

I personally and professionally applaud your courage. You sized up the situation and made a decisive act. While you acted and your body compensated by releasing the necessary chemicals to successfully complete you decision. As far as the crook is concerned, maybe he will learn his lesson. I doubt it, but he brought the matter of deadly force to the event. The fact that you reacted while in fear for you life and stopped before you killed him, just shows that you are a reasonable man that has compassion.

As far as the crook is concerned, we have another rule

Play stupid games = Win stupid prizes.

Sleep well as you did good work.

Thanks, Jeff. It's good to have a pro's views on this. Don't think I'd have the stomach to do this day in and day out like you guys do... A good reminder to me of what a tough job yours is.

Chiming in late, but you are indeed lucky to have escaped with no injuries, it's pretty easy to get cut in such an event. I teach knife fighting and if the kid knew anything, it's just bad juju. You should not feel bad at all, he's an idiot and hopefully learned a lesson from the experience. You SHOULD get pissed if someone comes at you with a knife, that's as serious as it gets in my book.

Controlling the situation is all well and good, but when you are there, in it, adrenalin and instinct are what keeps you there and alive. In martial arts we are often taught to control these situations, and to some extent you can, but it's always risky business.

              Feel better.

Not much gets to my conscience. Emotions like that don't get to me especially when they are shooting at me.

The very sight of your pistol may have caused the crack head to drop his knife and run.

I think you did learn something. In time it will become clear to you.

I'm glad that you were not hurt and you did not have to take a life, that is one of the hardest things to reconcile. DAMHIKT
