A New Twist On "Free Wood"

Usually you see the ads on CL for free wood - all you have to do is drop a 40' tree, clean up everything and grind the stump down....

This ad does it one better:

Wow, "It occurred to me that the wood...the veneer alone, never mind the boards that could be produced from this tree might have some value to the right person."

And it occurred to me that this guy's nuts.

Mmmmm...poplar veneer...because poplar is so expensive and attractive you can't afford to use solid wood.

That's a doozie. The fact that there is a huge investment in time, labor, and machinery to produce those $50 - $60 sheets of veneer can be waved away with your left hand.

I wonder if you could hire him to help? Maybe for an extra $1000 he would wave his right hand and create the veneer for you...

Always astounded when people want to be paid for a service that requires payment.

One of my favorite was a local guy who wanted $250 for people to come in and remove his nailed down hardwood floor. Not being satisfied when some fool took his offer the threw them out and then reposted, complaining about how they had shown up with shovels and a hatchback.

                      Beggars can't be choosers

Walnut trees seem to be the most popular for this "service fee" but I can't imagine why someone would want them gone, after all its not like they don't destroy the landscaping in a wide swath around them.

The value of lumber is in the time it takes to make, not the tree itself

Craigslist shows you a good idea of how many people out there have lost their grasp on reality. Whether its tools, lawn equipment, furniture or anything else most people seem to think that items they purchase fail to decrease in value as time goes on. Somehow a twenty year old table saw with a pitted cast top shoudl be worth more than one sold today.

                      People are idiots

He failed to mention the potential medicinal value of the roots, and the possibility of finding gold or other valuable artifacts while digging the roots. Heck, that could be worth millions.
