    Loving the "cold" northland

The ice went out this week on the lake at work. We're having mid-70's in March. The dew points are in the low 30's for a relative humidity at something like %25. Now if we could just repeat this every day for the next 6 months with out any sticky 80's, 90's, or 100's I would be a happy camper.

My condolences to our southern members who are now entering their half of the year for crummy weather

I had to drive through blowing snow to catch a flight out of Reno this afternoon. Probably the most intense storm all season, though it looks like there won't be as much snow as had been in the forecast.

Driving back in that crap after working and flying all day tomorrow is not going to be a picnic. Typical Sierra weather, though.

This southern member doesn't really dislike this climate. With only a few freezing days, snow every 10 years and 4 month springs and falls I can afford to turn the air conditioner on in the shop with the money that I save on not having turn on the heat but a couple of months. It does get a might hot though.

I'm unemployed at 4:00 today and it will be 70+ when I walk out the door. If we could just hold this weather until November I'd be a happy camper. Tomorrow morning I'll finally start to sheetrock the garage ceiling.

We just got 14"+ of rain this month.
The groundwater level is 1' below my floor joists.
If my sump pump (that has 11 seconds between cycles today) dies my house will float away.
There's a State of Emergency in Mass and thousands are flooded.
            I'll take a couple of months of sticky 80's & 90's.
            Can we start now?

The storm yesterday and last night is on it's way east. Lets hope it drops water where needed. We got about 5" in the rain gauge and last night it hailed leaving about 1/2" on the ground in protected places this morning and several inches in the roof valleys. Not the big stuff like some of you were getting, it's small, about the size of Le Sueur Early Baby Peas. Right now the sun is out and I'm about to check out the gutters for pine needles.

Are you sure they weren't Le Sueur petit pois peas in size??

BTW, it's 75 and sunny today, down to lower 50's at night, I'm biking to work and leaving my windows open day and night and loving this weather.

Stay afloat you guys with all the rain on the coast!

We're going to get ~1/2" rain in the next 24 hours. So, naturally, for the past week we've been on super-hyper-diaper-mega doppler weather watch.

Hey, I'm from Minnesota and we would have *******ized the French into 'Lee Sir petty peas' so I guess it's better to keep it to the English.

I'll bet my grandmother, a proud French Canadian of Voyageur ancestry, would roll over in her grave if she heard me say that.

                      You can keep the cold

Interesting. I too, live in the twin cities for the past 4 years. I spent 18 years in south Texas. I think that qualifies me to make a statement about hot vs cold.

COLD SUCKS. I stand by my statement that anyone who prefers to live in cold climates has probably never lived in a warm climate. I could be completely wrong, but I doubt it. Having to bundle up and wear 29 layers just to go out and get the mail is not fun. Granted, it got very hot and humid in Texas, but I have always found a way to get cool. I can't say that I can always find a way to get warm so far. Plus, for me, winter just means hibernation for 4-6 months. I just talked to my neighbors for the first time since December because it has been to cold to be outside (they have lived here all their lives, so they are "used" to the cold). I normally see them everyday in the summer. In addtion, my hands crack and bleed, static electricity sparks from door knobs even with a whole house humidifier. I just don't like it. In addition, snow is beautiful for the first 24 hours its on the ground, after that, it's brown, dirty, sloppy and messy---yuck. I don't even want to think what the chemicals do to cars. I know for a fact I have more rust on the underside of my car in 1 year than I did in all the years of living on the gulf coast combined.

You can keep the cold. Give me warm, sunny, hot & humid every day.

PS---To those dealing with floods or flooding, I hope everything works out for the positive.

                        I understand cold . . . .

                        . . . . but what's warm?

I think its something that last happened in September.

                        Regards, Steve

Looks like we had a pretty good rain last night and snow down to 2000ft. Snowing and blowing in the Sierras. Trying to decide wether to take dog to dog park, looks like T-storm are building. Dog are bugging so I will give it to 5pm PDT to decide. Feel sorry for all of you in the East. By look of forcast looks like wet weather through next Monday.

I've never *lived* in the South but I travel to LA, Houston, and Miami (and Detroit too, but that's not the same) frequently for work and have spent several weeks at a time there during the summer months.

I went to a cousin's wedding once. Outdoors. In Dallas. In July. That was more than enough for me to make up my mind about the climate even before I needed to spend time down there for work.

All that said, clearly the majority of Americans agree with you not me (see: population movement to the South & West for decades).
