    Sunday Drive

with My Daughter this last weekend. We went down to the farm and We could tell the

farmers are getting the ground ready. As We passed through this small community I

noticed a 1958 Edsel 2 door sitting on a small used car lot, I got My Daughter to drive back,

Their were several junky cars with prices on them, they seemed to be in order, and so

much per week. The Edsel didn't look to be in very good shape at all. I surmised by looking

at the $35,000.00 price tag that the Gentleman had been watching too many car auction

    on TV. Bill

    35 grand?!?!

Surely you jest. If not, then like you posted, the old timer needs to watch something else on the tv.

And still there. Nothing changed, no violation of the law of supply and demand.

There was a magical day that used cars turned into collectible cars.

Those pristine old cars bring a good buck. Even the ones that are not as collectible.

Have you guys seen the show "American Pickers"? I believe that's the title.

Couple of guys on the backroads of America searching for collectibles. Only saw a couple of episodes but pretty good overall. Neat old cars and collectibles that people have saved for years.

I used to see Edsels all the time for $2k. After receiving a few Ebay orders, wrapped in California papers (back when they had classifieds), I couldn't believe the same cars out there. It would almost have been worth it, to buy some and ship out there.

But when I wrenched, we had one mechanic that fell in love with a car at an old empty house behind us (son had moved his father into a home, he couldn't take car of himself or the house, etc). The kid thought it was something exotic, or "maybe a Studebaker". It was an Edsel Station wagon. (sat for at LEAST 10 years)
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

I had a girlfriend back in the 70's whose husband bought her an Edsal because he liked the way the rear windshield opened down behind the rear seat. The car was a real PITA but he didn't care because he traveled out of town for work about 3 - 3.5 weeks a month and didn't have to get it towed and fixed all the time.

I used to have a '63 Mercury Monterey with the Breezeway back window that went down like that. I think the late 57-58 Mercury "Turnpike Cruisers" had the retractable rear window too. We remember the good things and forget the problems!
