    Taxes - Are You Finished?

I am, or at least my part of it is. I dropped everything off at the accountant's this morning. This is a month earlier than my earliest previous record. The last two years I got stuff there just about the time he was starting the 1Q filings for his business clients, so we ended up filing extensions.

I figured my taxes before Christmas, just after I paid the house taxes. I finalized them and mailed the Jan 30th and already received the state refund.

Nope. My mortgage company was one of those that got caught up in the whole finance collapse. The old company was in receivership via FDIC, and the statement they gave me did NOT cover escrow payments. I have been trying to get through to them so I can find out exactly what was paid to whom...

Ditto here. Remember...an extension to file is not an extension to pay.

I've not started - still waiting for 1099's, etc. Then it's download taxact, enter the information, groan at the tax due, find some more deductions, repeat..... until I run out of deductions I forgot to enter :-)

            Then efile it and wait.

My tax return is done and ready to efile today. I will get a substantial refund, thanks to the Federal energy tax credit, but it is already spent to help pay for the two gas furnaces, two AC units and tankless water heater that I had installed last May. So far the energy star units are saving me at least $100 per month on utilities.

No way, I at least hope to not file for an extension this year. (Been saying that for several years now too) When I always end up owing thousands, I never get in a big hurry to file. Should make quarterly payments, but it never seems to work out.

I have gotten most of it ready to go in quicken. I'll just print out several reports and go to my tax guy eventually.

Federal filed and refund received via Turbotax. Still waiting on my State Refund and a refund on my amended 2008 federal tax return. Getting a good amount back because we had so many expenses with our rental property. The refund will be going to pay expenses to my management company to cover all the repairs they made when they took over. At least it's not coming directly out of my savings. I know, I know, theoreticaly I overpaid taxes, so it's still my money. Just doesn't hurt quite so bad to send them the refund.

All done using Turbo Tax. Holding off filing until early March to see if I get any "corrected" 1099s because of late reporting by mutual funds. Hate to leave all that money sitting in some federal pocket.

                      Regards, Steve

I'm all done, and I'm in hot water. Well, my refund is, anyway. The day after we got the state and federal refunds direct deposited, our water heater sprang a leak.

That's a bummer. I had that happen about ten years ago. I went to the basement around midnight to put something away and found a stream of water leading from the water heater. I had to shut off the water, so I knew we wouldn't have any hot water for showers the next morning before work. Luckily, it was the year that Home Depot experimented with staying open 24hrs a day over summer, so I jumped in my truck and went shopping. I came home with a new tank and some fittings around 1am. LOML had gone to bed around 10pm, so she had no idea what was going on. Rather than wake her for help, I manhandled the new tank down the stairs and into the laundry room. After a few hours, I had the old one disconnected and the new one installed with all the lines sweated into place and leak free. I got to bed around 3:30am. It was only after my wife got ready for work the next morning that I told her I was exhausted from only getting a few hours of sleep and why.

Boy am I happy! I just got return back from accountant, will be getting a *nice* refund. (Thanks to alimony being tax-deductable I might add.) I may have to get a bottle of single-malt scotch to celebrate...

My part was done on 31 December.

I think all the paperwork is here to figure and file. That's the Boss's part and she aint even started.
