    A few things:

    (1) I'm super impressed with how you've refused to blame everything on the dealer.

    (2) Seats are replaced by dealers for a number of reasons. One of my customers has a Smart Car and has replaced the seats with ones he purchased on eBay. The seats he purchased were nice leather ones from a car that had been in an accident (totalled). His original seats were cloth. He saved a bundle on the eBay leather seats (about 1/4th price of buying from the dealer). So if the cushion the dealer has provided doesn't work out, then consider watching eBay for a seat and if you can find one, take it to an auto body place and ask them to install it.

    (3) I looked at some of the seat cushions on Amazon and some have 4/5 and even 5/5 stars. Some of them also offer a massaging action. This might even be better for your wife (for her back). Does the unit the dealer provided offer a massage? If not, maybe you could upgrade it yourself with one that does, if your wife might like that.

I'm glad that she's happy - that's the most important thing. I'm also glad that you posted about this event, it helps remind people to be extra-cautions / vigilant in making sure that they get what they expect in a significant transaction.

Cabman, what Cgallery said. I am also impressed you arent' frothing at the mouth and blaming it all on the dealer. I also am glad that the dealer is fixing the real problem - heated seats, when he really didn't have to do anything.

This reminds me of something a car dealer friend once told me. Never, ever, buy a car at night. Ever.

Two of the local dealerships have parking lots so bright it looks like daytime at 9pm. He explained that they do this on purpose, it makes people more comfortable buying at night. However, the lights point straight down so the inside of the cars are usually shaded. This makes it hard for people to see what options the car has, what switches are missing, where the carpet is stained, etc.

I agree with the comment that you handled this well, C'man. It takes a real man to admit it was partially his fault. And I agree completely that if your wife is happy, that's the most important thing. Now you just forget about the initial confusion and enjoy the car.

Consumer Reports warns, "Never fall in love with a car. It will not love you back."

they particularly warn, if you wife is the type to fall in love with a car and it shows, do not, repeat, do not bring her to the dealer when negotiating. It destroys any leverage you might have in bargaining.
