You guys in the heavy snow area...

You guys in the heavy snow band are in for so much snow I can't even laugh at you. I sure hope everyone is alright.

The radio said 16 to 30 inches of snow. I know they are inclined to hype these types of stories. But !!!

Anyone doing anything special to prepare?

Schools let out early in preparation for the snow. Flurriers are just starting here. For this area it has been a banner of a year for snow compared to years past. We got 20" in December and maybe another 18" tonight. Time to get the salt back out.

We've had alot of business close early in Columbus. My office closed at 2pm. My brother n law, who lives in DC is getting 3" an hour. Fun Stuff. I'll be drinking heavily now that I'm home early. This way I can hibernate later.

            Only 42 days 'til Spring!

            Good luck all!

I am watching the snow fall outside my garage shop while I am tuning-up my BT-3000 and an old Shopsmith V from the 1970's. SHMBO is visiting her parents out of town and the dog an I are enjoying a quiet evening.

It is great here as it looks like the we'll miss the 12 inches the weather men and women were talking about earlier this week and only get two to four inches.

A nice long weekend making some new jigs I saw on this site and playing with my ham radio gear.

I have several projects under way.. I hope I have everything I need!

Also going to build a fire and sit back and relax!

They are calling for 12-14 inches of snow here!

Around here, if you didn't have shovels prior to this week, you weren't gonna get one. The local news actually had a 5 minute segment on Wednesday devoted to the shovel shortage.

From the NWS's winter storm warning for my area:

                  * PRECIPITATION TYPE... HEAVY SNOW.

                  * ACCUMULATIONS... WIDESPREAD STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 20 TO 30 INCHES... WITH SOME LOCATIONS IN EXCESS OF 30 INCHES.

It's shaping up to be pretty similar to December when we had 26 inches (although the forecasts then topped out at 24). That storm shut down Charlottesville for days; it was well over a week before many of the downtown streets were clear. Too many people abandoned cars on the roads that they shouldn't have been driving in the first place. Hopefully people learned their lesson last time and are staying home. Most everything in town was shut down today - UVA was closed for the first time since 2003, and we were told to stay home.

I worked from home for about half the day, and LOML and I used the rest of the day to take care of some much needed tasks around the house - recaulking one of our bath tubs, running some cat5 cable to add a couple ethernet ports in the living room, etc.

I got some extra propane for my shop heater - assuming the power is still on, we'll be out in the shop finishing a project tomorrow. Otherwise, the day will be spent in front of the fireplace doing some reading.

If we do get the totals they're predicting, I'll post a picture or two.

Took these pictures at 9pm tonight to capture some flakes on my new deck I built over the summer 2009. Snow started around 4pm and is expected to continue all day tommorow.

Aggrex, that is a lot of snow. We got a dusting here this morning, then it changed to rain. It has been raining all day. Supposed to stop tonight, we will see. I was going to go out to the shop tonight but decided I like it here on the couch where it is warm and dry.

My DIL who was in DC for training this week was able to get out first thing this morning. What ever Government Agency she was at cancelled todays session and they were able to leave. She arrived here in Sacramento at Noon Pacific Time. She was originally supposed to leave DC at 7pm tonight which probably wouldn't have happened. Hope their TV stays up over the weekend with the Super Bowl and NASCAR starting.

I'm watching the news now and they predict 30" for DC. Airlines are cancelling flights, sorry for the people stuck at the airports. Hope all of you in this storms path survive OK. El Ninio is the cause for this strange weather. We are in a drought like condition where I live, only got less than .6 of an inch of rain since January. We normally get 110" of rain a year on my side (east) of the island. Its been cold about 66 to 72 degrees @ nites I know you guys are laughing but that's considered cold for us here in Hawaii.
