about the "Tonight Show" fallout after Carson retired. Jay Leno's primetime show is gonna get pulled, no ratings. Letterman is loving it.

YMMV, but I certainly don't think so. Letterman is far too sarcastic, acerbic, campy and disingenuous. His act gets old after 5 minutes. I do think NBC kinda did a number on him way back then, but it's a heartless business, and he's no Boy Scout.Comment

I agree. He should be replaced by Al Bundy.

I watched Letterman for years when he came on late nights after Carson. His humor was very cutting edge and funny back then. Now it just seems old and dated. Pretty much quit watching late night talk/humor shows after Carson left. Carson was pretty much the innovator and nothing since has even approached his level.Comment

+1 for Johnny Carson, also. He is the standard that will never be met. He could go toe-to-toe with the biggest of icons, because he was one also. Nobody today is worthy to carry his jock, IMHO.

Cab,
You are truly starting to frighten me, I thought you said TED BUNDY.
But, then again, I'm still half asleep. Although, that may make for a better show, I really feel that Letterman is a #1 A-hole.

Letterman is bitter. He is a little better than Conan, but most nights that is like saying a fork in the knee is better than a spoon in the eye.David

There was a short period of time when I liked Letterman, but I'll take Leno over both Letterman and O'Brien any day of the week. Leno's not the best comedian I've ever seen, but he seems like a nice fellow overall. O'Brien is always trying to act silly and appeal to folks 20 years younger, and Letterman just seems like a cranky, bitter old dude to me.
I've got several "Uncle John's" bathroom trivia books, and it's amazing how NBC treated Carson the first several years. Too much detail to post here, but Carson "had to put on a pair" several times with NBC to get control of the show and make it his own after Jack Paar."It's a dog eat dog world out there, and I'm wearing Milk-Bone underwear."- Norm (from Cheers)

Carson will always be the best.
I like Leno over Letterman, and have never liked Conan much. Ferguson is the funniest of this generation in my book. I record Craig Ferguson and watch it with morning coffee. If you can read this you assembled wrong.
