    Question For The Craigslist Junkies

Often while viewing craigslist I'll see an ad that has a header that say something similar to "Whatchamacallit For Sale $1". Once you open the ad up you discover that the real asking price is of course not $1. Is this something that craigslist frowns on or is it OK to mislead the naive craigslister's such as myself? I've actually gotten to the point where now I don't even bother to look at those listings any longer but I'm still curious if craigslist thinks this practice is kosher.

Craigslist is a community driven website. If you feel that this is misleading then flag that particular sale. Its quite common for folks to do this just to get you to look at their sale items. I personally flag those types of adds as often as possible.

Just an attempt to get your attention to read their ad. actually pretty effective as so many CL list browsers are looking for a steal. Maybe scammers trying to scam scammers.

i'd say its misleading but there's no CL police to do any enforcement. I'd say the buyer beware quotient is about 50 times higher on CL than on eBay which in itself is 20 times higher than say, Target.

I look at it a little differently. If it was something I wanted I would answer with a very carefully worded reply to make sure I get real contact info (and maybe an address) from the seller, and then ATTACK!! along the lines of you advertised it for $1 so I will pay $1 or we can go before Judge Judy.

I'm not so sure Target is any safer than Ebay... The one in Kemah sells nothing but overpriced junk too...

On the boneheads that do that $1 thing in the header, I found that they almost always are asking MORE than what the item went for new... So I no longer even look at them. Caveat Emptor...

Often these ads have multiple items for sale with a price for each one. The other way you often see multiple postings is with the cheapest price in the header.
