A Day I Have Been Dreading

My wife rescued 5 yr old Lab from the local shelter about 10 years ago. Over the past 3 or 4 days he has eaten and drank very little. We could see him getting weaker by the day and knew his time with us was about over.

When I left for work this morning I petted him and opened the door slowly so he wouldn't have to get up and move. By the time Ginger got up at 9:45, he was gone. By all indications, he passed peacefully in his sleep. I came home from work and, with my oldest son's help, wrapped him in plastic and moved him out back.

My youngest came over about noon and spent the afternoon digging the grave.

Bubba will be missed. We don't know what the first 5 years of his life were like, but the last 10 he was loved and pampered.

I feel your pain, Pappy. After a while, the good memories will remain and comfort your family. Maybe the hole in your hearts will leave room for another deserving friend when you are ready. Bubba was very lucky to have you.

Pappy, as I sit here looking at my own rescued girl. you have me in tears. I can feel your hurt and wish that the many great memories of Bubba will help you through the next few days. We don't lose a pet but a good friend.

As I watch our now 13 year old rescue lab getting slower, and having a hard time with his hips, and excersize, I fear we are not far behind you. I am sorry for your loss, but glad for the years of joy your dog brought to you.

Sorry for your loss. It is always hard to lose a companion of many years, I very much understand your dread.

Sorry to hear that Pappy. We have a chocolate lab. Cocoa AKA Ya Big Lug is the dog that brought me and my wife together. He's getting long in the tooth and I don't want to think about losing him.

Sorry for your loss, they really do become family members.

                      My deepest condolences, Pappy.

11-YO black lab here, absolutely my best friend. He wakes me in the morning, goes to work with me, hangs out in the shop with me. We are very rarely apart, in fact.

Don't even want to think of the day...

                          My condolences on your loss.

We had to put our long time friend to her rest a couple years ago. Sometimes at night I think I can hear her nails clicking across the tile or her paws on the wall when she would sleep in the hall. It always makes me smile to think she is still watching over us.

Pappy, our heart felt sorrow goes

out to you and family. When these creatures bond with their human friends, they do so without any hatefulness, or without expectations. Hopefully you will find another special friend and carry on the wonderful relationship. Thank you for being a special person for your friend.
