    Look what followed me home...

A Craftsman Compucarve. I've been wanting one of these ever since I first saw the commercial from Sears. But then I saw the $2000 price tag . Then one day I see one of Sears near me has it on clearance for $799. I was tempted but still out of my price range. Today I come back and find they dropped the price again to $599 I asked the guy what was wrong with it and he said it was a special order for a customer and he changed his mind and their system wouldn't allow them to keep it in stock. Kind of a weird explanation but I keep my mouth shut. I ask him if it has the same warranty/ return policy as a new model and as soon as he says yes I almost yell "I'll take it". I opened it up and it seems brand new. It even has that new tool smell . I put all the loose parts together but probably won't be able to try it out till Sunday.

I know, no pics didn't happen. So here ya go...

You're going to wait until Sunday to try it out? That's cruel and unusual punishment!

It probably is but shortly after I got home I had to help my brother with his car and will be out of town all day tomorrow. Plus I didn't want to just wing it and stick a board in there without reading the instructions and possibly breaking something. But rest assured the whole day Sunday will be devoted to my new toy. Heck I'm already checking out aftermarket bits for it right now. It looks like I could use this to replace many jobs my router used to do.

So what I'm hearing is that I just need a buddy to special order this thing, then cancel his special order? Then I wander into the store and ... Oh look a compucarve on sale!

Yah the manager's explanation didn't really make sense to me either. But you know what they say about questioning gift horses. My guess is that after they placed the order their system marked it as "used" and in order to make room for the "new" Compucarves they had to discount. Or maybe it was just my lucky day. I probably should have bought a lottery ticket on the way home.

I have been thinking about a CompuCarve, but like you the price point for my needs is, well, excessive. Almost bought a used one in September, two days later our dryer quit, so I guess there was a message in there somewhere.

                            Have fun,
                            Russ
