    Went Fishing Today!

Took a day off today and did some fishing in the Delaware Bay out of NJ.
We are blessed here in the northeast with some great fresh and salt water fishing.
The spring brings the run of Stripers into the rivers to spawn and in the fall these large fish come back to pay one last visit to gorge on anything that swims as they make their way south for the winter. This fall has been very good so far with plenty of fish to 25 pounds. Today I ended up catching 11 fish over 30" keeping only 3 for the table (2 plus a bonus program in NJ) with one of the three measuring 45" and weighing 40.3lbs
Here are some pics. In 30 days it will be too cold to fish so we are enjoying it while it lasts!
    Thanks for reading.
    Joe

Envy, envy! I used to go fishing in NJ a lot while in grad school, but not for stripers. Mostly blues and flounder. Looks like you had a great day.

        stripers are nice fish.
What kind of rods and reels/line size are you using?
How long does it take to land one?

You must have had a ball with them! Enjoy your time there while you have it. I'm sure Rusty Joe's appreciates the free advertising.

Nice stripers there, Joe. Did you catch them off that pier or just end back up there? I used to do a lot of surf and pier fishing on Topsail Island up in N.C. in the 70's and 80's which had 6 fishing piers before the on-slaught of hurricanes took them down along with all the beach houses on the dunes adjacent to the ocean.

Many runs of blues in the spring and summer and drum in October. But.. we would drive back and forth on the 6 mile span of the beach watching for a school of stripers coming in on a feeding frenzy. I have a freind that does troll for them at Lake Hartwell on the Georgia-S. Carolina line as they stocked the fresh water lake with them.

I do miss surf and pier fishing but just too busy with other things it seems these days.

Nice haul and good to see you having some fun...

Wow - the size of that first one is unreal! Did you really catch that, or does Rusty Joe also have a side-business (supplying live ones)... ?

No offense meant - that's just my envy speaking out ! Was that a lucky strike, or is it par for the course (or for you)?

Now that you have the bait you can do some real fishing!

                        Thanks everyone!
I caught her about 1 mile off the beach on the Delaware Bay fishing alone on my boat.
I used Bunker (fish) as bait. We cut the bait fish into small chunks and throw it over to create a slick. Then take hunks of the bait and hook them. Set the reels (Abu 7001) to clicker mode and sit back and wait for the greatest sound on earth...
