Any strong feelings about the HF magnetic tool holding strips?

I don't know if this is a tool quesiton, project question, or a shop setup question, so I'm putting it here

does anyone have any strong opinions for / against the 18" long 3 pack magnetic tool holderhttp://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=97847

I am considering picking up 2 of these sets to help my get my hand tool situation under control

I have a couple of them that I use for quick tool access under the front edge of one of my benches. You wouldn't want to hang a hammer or anything else of considerable weight, and you have to be careful if you don't want residual magnetism in your screwdrivers, but otherwise they suit my needs adequately.

Ditto Uncle Cracker... they will magnitize a screw-driver which I kind of like but.. don't put chisels on them unless you want to get ticked off sharpening when the fine metal shaving want to hang on for dear life due to magnetism. You will waste much time before you finally do get if off. Trust me!

I've tried a few different brands. The HF ones work as well as any. Actually, I tried one brand from a German outfit that used REAL STRONG magnets. I mean, Optimus Prime couldn't pull some of the flat tools off the thing. In that regard, the HF ones are better.

I had two of those, or someone's. I could never figure out what to hang on them and in the end I mounted them on the back of some bulletin board material and stuck it to the side of the freezer. It works real well there. Hasn't fallen off yet.

            Bill,
best advice, if in doubt don't

I have 2 of those magnet strips above my workbench. I keep a few 4" clamps on it and also a scratch awl. I do keep some chisels on it also. My beater set of Stanley chisels. If I keep them out in the open then that's what LOML will grab instead of the good ones in my tool box.

My dad has some he has had up for around 10 years and they still work well, he also has a few of the magnetic treys for holding nuts and bolts when working on cars and such and really likes those as well.

Thanks for the tip. I got one along with the shop and was thinking it would be handy to hang the lathe tools on. I won't do that.

They are metal bars with magnet strips epoxied into place. Kind of hard to screw that up...

FWIW, there are a LOT of tools I just don't want magnetized. And some I simply don't care. Ratchets, sockets, wrenches, don't care, small pliers, screwdrivers, and anything else that may come in contact with electronics I may be working on I definately do NOT want magnetized...

I bought a couple from WC (I think) for my lathe chisels. They work TOO well.
Takes some doing to pry them off of the bar, then they get magnetized and stick to the lathe tool rest - not good. Spent a lot of time de-magnetizing

well, I got 2 of the 3 up, and I really like being able to just pull off what I need, and then sticking the stuff back w/out really looking...

and for my stuff, I don't really care if it's magnetized or not, even with my electronics screwdrivers... as a matter of fact most electronics these days are really agnostic about magnetics near them, unless you are talking about really powerful fields, and I don't think that you could induce those on your tools with these bars made by my uncle chang
