    I Got Carded Tonight

At dinner. That hasn't happened in a looong time. The waitress thought I looked under 30 and their policy is to card if you look under 30.

Take it as good news, you may feel old but at least your not looking it (just kidding)

It's been a long time since I've been carded. Good for you!

I also got carded recently, but now it takes on a whole different meaning. They wanted to see my I.D. to make sure I was eligible for the senior discount! Oh well.....

I was carded two days ago at the Nagoya International Airport when I went to pick up a couple coming in.

Asking for my ID happens about once every two years for me, and usually it is when I am in jeans and sneakers. If I am nicely dressed, I don't get a second glance.

The policeman was a little surprised during our conversation and I do think he just wanted to make his presence known. His facial expression showed that he wasn't expecting the answers that I gave.
First, he said "Can I see your passport?"
I replied, "I don't have it with me, I have my Alien Registration [Gaikoku touroku shou]" (in Japanese of course.)

He was surprised. Next he asked "Did you come by bus to meet someone here?"

I said "No, I drove - to pick them up!"

Then he asked "You live in Japan?"

Me: "Toyota City, Itsutsugaoka; 24 years in Japan!"

He said "Sumimasen, arigato." Rarely will a policeman offer a hint of an apology for interrupting a person. But this one did. And I was polite to him.

I was a little irritated because he came straight to me and picked me out of people standing around. But he went on to Japanese after that and started asking questions.

As a fluke, carry your picture ID driver's license from your 18th birthday (or there abouts). Photography had been invented when I was 18.

Hopefully she carded the wife, too. You, and not her, could cause some upset!

Last time I got carded was at Kemah Ice House when I was in college. It's been a Jack In The Box for about 10 years now I guess...

The policy of carding those that look under 30 is probably a good policy. A now good friend of mine used to be the guy that would show up on the fishing pier in college, with a case of beer when I was in my early 20s, I hadn't known him all that well yet, and simply assumed he was the same age as the rest of us (early 20s), nope, he was 17 in an accelerated college credit course... Honestly, he didn't look like a teenager... He looked like a college student...

The carded under 30 rule got me irate one time, but I bit my tongue. I was at a Royals baseball game, back when they had a good team, and the beer man carded a group sitting a few rows in front of me. He told them of the under 30 rule. I thought that was fine. Then I bought a beer and he didn't card me. I was 25 or 26. I left feeling a lot older.

The last time I did get carded, I did leave a healthy tip and left feeling younger! Unfortunately, that was a long time ago.

Sounds like you were the victim of racial profiling (a.k.a. walking while white).

I'm more likely to be asked if I qualify for a senior discount.

                          I'm only 44.
