    A Huge Nest!

Found this way up in a tree by mums place. Couldn't believe the size and the small "twigs" it was hanging from!

Ok I see the little devil. The whole looked big in the picture. Shot gun would be good if you can run fast.

You could use the wasp and hornet sprays that shoot a stream about 10'. I would have a fogger in the other hand, like Yard Guard in case they start swarming.

Right now the nest is a good 20-25 feet up the tree and nearly 100 feet away from the house. The little beasties arn't worried about us being under the tree and my mum even ran the lawn mower in the area with no complaints from the little neighbours. I'm thinking of waiting untill the snow flies and cutting it down for my daughters science class.

The best idea I've seen so far. Make sure it gets a good freeze or two. You don't want any adults or larvae to give you a surprise when you bring it inside.

That's a hornets nest. Don't even think about messing with it until winter.

                              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornet#Stings

according to this, it's a bad idea to kill a hornet anywhere in the vicinity of the nest as it may trigger the defense of the entire nest.
