    Shhh its a surprise

    Hey guys,

Sam's birthday is Monday and I want to get him branding iron. I really like the Signature one but it's a little over the budget. This is where I need you guys expert options. Where should I order it from and what should it say (i.e. Handcrafted by Sam Conder or what?).

Thanks. I am going to try and keep him off the forum for the weekend so he doesn't see this post.

Also wanted to thank all you all for all the prayers and well wishes this winter with my surgery. I am doing AWESOME and feel better than I have in years.

    Thanks again,
    Adele

I don't own one but I know a few people who do. They all like the Signature, if that tells you anything. I've always liked something like "From The Workshop Of _____"

Thanks for the update on yourself. That is very good news indeed.

Glad to hear the good medical news...

As for the iron, WC has a non-signature (2 lines of text) electric iron for $89.99. Link. That's about 1/3 the cost of the signature iron.

Note that, wherever you go, there's about a 6-8 week lead time...

I am wanting three of these actually, to represent heritage to the next generation. One in English (We are Americans after all) on in Spanish for LOML's side of the family, and one in German for mine. But if I had to settle on one, I would go with English...

Rockler has them on their site, but I am pretty sure they order from somewhere else...

The Signature ones are Definately the way I would want to go, but yeah, they are expensive...

Maybe somebody here knows where to get them at a decent price...

FWIW, The self heating ones are really nice to have...

          Some froogling found this:

          Link

Their signature units are $159, but I don't know about the quality.

          Glad you're doing better!

If you do a search on the link for 'branding' it shows more designs.

they're custom made and will take quite a bit more than three days to get made.
You could place the order and then have him supply the artwork/logo/signature.
I have the one from Rockler with the "handmade by xxxx" in an arc. -
and it's electrically heated - a must for an ocassional user like us. Otherwise you need a torch or open flame. which makes it way to complex to use unless you are also have a blacksmith or glassblowing shop. As it is, it takes about 10-15 minutes for the electric one to reach temperature.
