It depends on what you mean by 'most dangerous'. If you mean most injuries, I wouldn't know but would guess something like football. If you mean severity of injuries I would say skydiving. Even though the injury rate is very low, the severity is generally death.

Volleyball - if you're not rating severity.

I would have guessed biking caused more injuries than all of the options on the list if we were talking about any level of injury...

I'm going with skateboarding and baseball.

As a football player, I say skateboarding. I think that there are some pretty nasty injuries in football, but people wear pads and they are ready for the hits. Most players lose out to combined injuries over time rather than a single nasty injury.

Skateboarding creates some really nasty injuries. A sprained hamstring is nothing compared to road rash. Course, trying to jump over a large banister and down three flights of stairs and then across a large road...not the most intelligent thing to do.

The outliers in any sport are pretty nasty, I was going by the average injury.

One I don't see mentioned here but is considered a dangerous sport is horse racing.
from Wikipedia: "For every 1,000 jockeys you have riding, over 600 will have medically treated injuries." She added that almost 20% of these were serious head or neck injuries. The study reported 6,545 injuries during the years 1993-1996.[37] More than 100 jockeys were killed in the US between 1950-1987

Meanwhile I'm watching "Jessie James is a Dead Man" and I gotta think figure 8 racing might be up there too.

                      Baseball

Due to the long season and leg and arm injuries, I would think that baseball would be #1. The injuries aren't usally severe, and rarely (thank goodness) life threatening, but a lot of injuries happen.

I have seen similar poll years ago. The most dangerous sports at that time were Mountain climbing followed in second place by white water rafting. These sports turned out much more dangerous than any contact sport including boxing, wrestling, football, etc.

Poll closes the 4th of July! So, no answer from me yet.

I will say this: the figures I know are based on injuries that went to the ER. That's the easiest to track in the USA system, since minor injuries on the field are not reported.

I hadn't really thought about season length when I picked Skateboarding on the poll and mentioned biking in a previous post. Around here both of those are mostly out during the winter. If that's the case then something like Basketball, or Tennis or running that go all year would be better choices. Again, lots of sprains and strains more than broken limbs...

In that case I'd like to change my vote to swimming/diving.
