Why did you not use M and D mower. They are a factory approved Ryobi parts seller.

A lot of eBay sellers are notorious for their inflated shipping and handling costs. Communication
with a seller is key. Write them for complete shipping costs before you bid on an item.Last edited by sparkeyjames; 06-22-2009, 08:10 PM. -
Shipping costs are one reason I stopped buying on Ebay. I find most of what I want via craigslist and just pay cash. Paypal has also fallen into disfavor with me for some of the things it has done.David

One Price Philosophy
Gentlemen/Ladies:
As the owner of Just Ryobi Parts, I have to make business decisions on how to price product and S&H. If you understand how EBay works, you will find that final value fees are based on the price of the item. I weight the S&H a little more so the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) is a little less than others. End result? Benefits you.
Postage is one thing, but don't forget overhead, listing fees, packing materials, envelopes, insurance, cost to go to the post office, etc. Please understand that.
I have a one price philosophy at the website and it is pretty clear. I suggest everyone who wants to buy from me read it... READ IT. Complaning after the fact is silly.
I offer negotiations on products before the sale, I do not negotiate after... makes sense, doesn't it?
If someone has a beef about something, I answer all e-mails to clarify things. I offer discounts for all private sales and will quote a couple of different ways.
If it adds anything, I am not a fan of EBay anymore, either. They nickel and dime sellers. Their fee structure is outrageous. Thank you for your business and trust!

Hey jcherryai, welcome to BT3Central! I don't know what took you 15 months to respond to a rant about your non competitive pricing structure but welcome anyway.Donate to my Tour de Cure

I will set a calendar reminder to welcome you to the forum in January of 2012.
Meantime, it's good to know that there are options for parts out there, but that S&H fees at some stores can change depending upon other factors.online at http://www.theFrankes.com

FWIW, I have made purchases with Just Ryobi parts. Sometimes even considering s&h, his pricing is competitive, sometimes it's not... It's up to the consumer to evaluate the options and select the most suitable options for them...Please like and subscribe to my YouTube channel. I wonder how quick customer service is, since he is replying to June 2009 thread. (can't believe this hasn't gotten locked)

Other than sarcasm, I don't see a need to lock the thread. Sarcasm isn't against the rules.
I only use Ebay as a last ditch effort to get rid of stuff.
The way Ebay does things is not the way to do business IMO. They have attorney like fees and that I can't abide by. Not like they are doing the leg work to recoup money for clients in a civil case. The sale price, if any should go to the seller. Ebay is only providing a service and a platform for it. Getting a share in the total sale price for what they do is unethical to me. Gouging people for shear profit is done quite often in business though, so nothing new there. You have heard of the Middleman.
If I do use Ebay though, it is for items that I just no longer need. These are always items I feel others can use and can get at a decent price from me. I always set a shipping rate on par with actual costs. I send Flat rate when I can. This way all costs are apparent and up front.
I buy nothing that doesn't have an actual shipping total listed.
I understand why sellers inflate the shipping as well. Ebay doesn't get to share in that money. I do not have an issue with that. It is a back door option. That is as long as the shipping costs are listed. I'd love to see a router sold for $3.95 or so with $75 shipping cost. Ebay would then get what they deserve from the sale.LeeComment

Ethically I can't agree that inflating the handling portion of the price to pull money away from eBay is a good thing.
We have become too used to the idea that the internet provides services to us for free that we would otherwise have to pay for through the nose.
Think of the cost to program and maintain a PCI compliant website, process fees independant of the convienence of PayPal, and market to potential customers.
They're providing a free to consumers marketplace to sell your goods on at a competitive price.
Maybe I'm just bitter because I've been waiting for a replacement air filtration unit. It was purchased off eBay with an inflated shipping cost. The seller is having "problems" with shipping USPS flat rate because of the size/weight. Nevermind I was charged an amount that would easily cover UPS/FedEx ground with 50% of the shipping/handling still going toward nonexistant packaging; shipped in original box. leaving the rest to cover listing fees and the hassle of scheduling a pick-up at your house.Comment

It is NOT free to consumers. They are the ones that ultimately pay for it all. Ebay gets money just from listings alone as long as they sell. You could look at what they do as covering losses for unsold listings, but still seems high to me. I could agree more with a set fee from Ebay for purchases say over $500 or maybe even $1000 with lesser fee base for lesser items, but not a growing percentage of the final sale. That is in no way relative to the cost of the services they provide.
If Ebay can do it like that, then I don't have a problems with sellers cutting them out of some of the profits. Tit for Tat really. The consumer though ultimately foots the bills.
I have heard something about the shipping costs being changed due to this issue. Ebay has some smart folks working there, so I am sure they will find a way around it.
You have to be much more vigilant because of the pricing arrangement of Ebay now than in previous times due directly to shipping cost inflation IMO.
It was a nice market place, but not so much anymore.Last edited by Stytooner; 10-12-2010, 10:57 AM.LeeComment

How long would a "brick and mortar" store be in business if they charged you shipping and handling on top of the agreed on price when you went to check out? Not long, and they would probably have to hire extra help just to put the merchandise left on the counter back on the shelves, for the few weeks that they were in business.
I can deal with the additional shipping and handling as long as I know it up front. To heck with a site that will tell you if you inquire, I do not have time to wait for a day or so for their email.

reddog's OP mentioned paying $49.00 for four parts to rebuild his roller holder. If I had spent that on parts I'd be ranting as well. Hence the jab I made at our new member jcherryai. The main part roller holder is less than $2.00 @ M-and-D Mower and in stock. I surmise that reddog could have ordered all four parts elsewhere for less than he paid in shipping/ handling.
Ebay's pricing policies don't seem any more unreasonable to me than $50 for a very small handful of low cost parts. Buyer beware on both accounts. Kudos to jcherryai for his honesty about his pricing structure! "Tit for tat" brings to mind "two wrongs do not make a right" so the ethics of this are cloudy in my mind; in which case full disclosure gets my nod as the right thing to do. Ebay in my opinion has become like cable TV; not only do you have to pay for it up front but you also are stuck with commercials and infomercials.Donate to my Tour de Cure
