We're sort of a Mutt right now:
1) HDTV off the air (ATSC) for local channels
2) DirecTV for "cable" channels, currently in SD
3) Our kitchen TV gets basic cable. Why do we have both cable and DirecTV? Because it's cheaper to get cable internet with basic than it is without it. Go figure.
Probably very soon, we'll be upgrading to an HD satellite package. Currently leaning toward TurboHD from Dish, still getting the locals off the air.
We also use DVD's and Blu-Rays.

My Hi Def TV receives Hi Def off the cable BEFORE the cable box thru use of a splitter and an input on the tv and then the other split of the cable feeds the cable box and the recorder box, so with this set up, I can watch one station live, and record 2 others, which is one more than the usual set up.
I can only receive Hi Def for the local channels through this set up but the good news is it does not cost me extra for the Hi Def, its almost like getting it off the air, its there and my TV set converts/receives it.Bernie
Owww -- That spinnin' thang hurt!!

Digital OTA with a coat hanger antenna and Dish for other channels. OTA works great now that i moved the antenna up to the attic. I just need to add a VHF antenna now to better pick up the PBS channel broadcasting The Woodsmith Shop. The OTA program guide works great with MythTV.EricComment

I have a little 13" tv I bought one time to hook to a VCR and Camera, I may keep it (have a convertor box). But my 27" tv is a goner, and I don't plan on hooking up the box, anytime soon. I want to see if I get more acomplished, and I doubt I will miss it.She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.Comment

We don't watch it much. I have some boxes my wife ordered from the local cable company that I'm supposed to install. It's on my "to do" list, but we're gonna be outta this house and at Tahoe in about six weeks.Comment

Probably should have allowed multiple selections...
By hours of actively watched content NetFlix wins hands down for me most weeks.
The background (sideground?) content is all DirecTV either one of the local sports teams, or some flavor of History, PBS, DIY, CNN, or the like. I do DVR a couple of first-run series on the premium channels, but I Netflix the same series with a 1 season delay for the channels I don't have.
I also have both of the HDTVs hooked up to an antena for watching local content in better quality HD on occasion (especialy obvious on sporting events on local/regional channels that DirecTV significantly overcompresses).Comment

I have ATT Uverse and have had no big issues. We wiree the house with CAt 5 so it was an easy install. Have 2HD and 2SD and both computers are on the wired network and also have the wireless network for visitors and my Netbook. The VOIP phone serevice has a problem with the answering machine on our phone but don't care as we don't use the phone that much. I love the ability to set the DVR remotely and the picture quality is great, especially on my 60" flat screen. Had Disnetwork but started have problems with the reception and they couldn't really solve it and didn't want Comcast, so change to ATT.

I'm in the same boat technically (though no TVs are hooked up to the basic cable). When Time Warner (a company I didn't like) was taken over by Comcast (a company I dislike even more)in this region (or swapped territory or whatever) they basically jacked the internet-only rate up by ~%75. You do get a discount of like $8-10/month though if you have cable as well, so fine, they can give me a discount for a service I don't want, and pay the networks the nickel or whatever price they've negotiated.
I keep telling myself I should go to DSL and save a few bucks but we live in Sprint (now Embarq) land and I haven't been very impressed with their service at a couple of my work locations (how sad to be pining away for the days I lived in the Qwest service area).
That brings up another point, how many folks are happy with their pay TV provider (cost, service, quality, etc.)? I actually like DirecTV (cheaper would be better but it feels okay) but I have never liked any of the cable companies I've had (Rogers, Time Warner, Comcast, AT&T/MediaOne (pre-Uverse), Cablevision, maybe another).Comment

Used to have DirecTV but had problems with them and switched to DISH who are much better IMHO.
Also watch TV shows and movies on the TV from the Internet via media functions of our Playstation 3 from Hulu, Netflix etc.Jon

Hi Def digital cable. Only way Time Warner, now Comcast would allow me to get cable broadband... We pulled the movie channels though. Thank God Speed Channel is part of the standard package. Please like and subscribe to my YouTube channel. Please check out and subscribe to my Workshop Blog.Comment
