    Vexillology

It's memorial day, I have my flag out.
Someone, I guess the HO association puts up flags in front of everyone's house on these patriotic holidays. Up Saturday, gone Tuesday. Except mine, I guess because I have a flag pole.

So my flag is bigger than everyone elses.

Do you have a flagpole, and when do you use it?

    me:
Texas flag on San jacinto day and Alamo day (april 21 and March 7)
or sometimes the "1824" texas independence flag.
US Flag on Flag day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, 4th July, President's day and quite often when I just feel like it.
Sports flag (Rockets-during the playoffs, UT - for my son, Texan's I don't have one yet, I have no danger of being in the playoffs yet) when they're winning. I have Baylor flags (for my daughter, but you can almost always count on them for losing) and a Cornell flag for me.
Sometimes I fly flags of places - states and countries - I visited recently and enjoyed.
I must have 25 flags or more. Incl Canada, norway, france, hong kong, spain, NY, california, Maine, TX, AK

Fortunately state and national flags are available on eBay for aroound $5-10. Sports and institutional flags are usually copyrighted and command $20 or 30 bucks.

Funny, when i put the flagpole in, the flagpole was taller than the trees.

Great idea for a poll Loring.
On the 4th of July I replace it with a 3'x5' 13 star flag that I have had since 1976.

We used to fly the flag. It was the one my father in law's casket was covered with. Someone decided they would steal the flags around here, and his was torn to pieces, so we don't fly one any longer. I know we should, and we'll probably opt for a small flag to display. Right now we don't have one up.

I have a wall mounted US flag but I'm looking for a better mount/pole system. I also have a USAF flag I'll fly once I get a better mount. I have power lines in my front yard so I don't have a room for a decent flag pole.
My US flag was flown by a C-130E aircraft into Iraq and Afghanistan while I was stationed in Qatar. I also gave them away as "Thank you for your support" gifts with a certificate.

          Flag

I fly the US Flag daily on a free standing flag pole. I have no idea how many years that I have done this, but it was many years before 9-11. I have worn out many flags.

Everyday... I have a 16" foot flag-pole I mounted on my front porch that comes off it at about a 30* angle. The porch sits about 5' off ground level so...

Half mast for Sam Maloof for the last two days and back to full mass today for Memorial Day where it will remain until another half mast situation arises.

I fly one occasionally. To fly it every day either means I have to take it down every night which I know I won't do or light it at night. We have one of the small poles in a bracket mounted to one of the porch posts.

Stick in the ground is a bad description, but closest to my arrangement. 10' in from the sidewalk, and 10' and 15' from my driveway I have a 2" PVC pocket for my flagpole driven into the ground. I have in years past flown old Glory and the Lone Star Flag (Texas for the Yankees out there...)

I was unable to get TO my flags or flagpoles this year as they are in the back corner of the shop...

I use 12' shop built poles (closet rod with clippy thingies on one end and thread into the pole on the other end. The Poles are painted black, with a basic Home Depot threaded / stud equipped finnial painted gold to top it all off. (I never really liked the stylized eagles much...)

I spent 3.5 hours this weekend cleaning up in the shop. I found my table saw...

I SERIOUSLY need to spend some quality time cleaning up in there. Too much got left as it was so I could play on the lathe... I've been neglectful now I am paying the price...

I should mention we fly various flags throughout the year, depending upon the season, and the occasion, a flag depicting the nativity for Christmas, a flag showing the tomb with the stone rolled away for Easter..

I have a free standing flag pole but I haven't flown a flag in a while. The pole is a cheapie basically made from sections of fence top rail.

I had a site in my favorites that sold tops, trucks, cleats, and lanyard. I would like to set 2 nice poles for the US and Texas flags (Marine colors on Nov 10). I can buy the parts and mount them to 20' sections of heavy wall aluminum tubing for about half what one commercially made flag pole would cost.

I used to have a bracket out front. A dying tree pretty well wiped it out, so when I tried to hang the flag one year, it wouldn't. Since the tree has been taken out, I have had some neighbors from he...

I am working on a few things and hoping to get a bunch of house projects done this year. Now the flag I have is old, but no idea how old (was my grandparents), but I am wondering if there is a side of the house that the bracket should go on?

I hope it is they are just trash and not a generational thing, heck, a former president came to the house next door (shared drive, cousin lived there) and didn't block it. They block it, throw their trash (beer bottles, parts of the foundation the kids break off, etc), dog feces, and more. Until they are out, I don't think it is safe to hang.

I think I responded to the survey too quickly. Not only do I fly a flag everyday, but I have a niced wooded pole that mounts to a column on my porch. Not many people in my neiborhood have the U.S. Flag up. Most people fly the OSU flag in Columbus. Drives me crazy to see more people would rather invest in a flag for a college team rather than the country that makes them free.

My sister lives in Ann Arbor. When her younger son decided on MSU he raised the green and white flag on the pole in their front lawn. In the morning they found it flying upside down.

I have a 20' telescoping aluminum pole in front yard that is conveniently lit by a street light about 40' other side of it, so 3x5 US flag flies 24/7/365 unless we have reports of expected high winds. I go thru a flag every 12/15 months or so before it either starts to fade or tatters and I replace it.

During the season, below it, I fly a 3x5 STEELERS flag!!
