Better hurry if that's what you want to do, Pontiac to join Olds...

All the news we about GM hate to read here.

I don't quite get why they are killing Pontiac, but keeping Buick. There's Pontiacs all over the place here, but I rarely ever see a Buick..

I wonder if that Aztek had anything to do with it...

They are keeping Buicks over Pontiacs since the profit margins are higher for the Buicks even though there are more Pontiacs sold than Buicks. They are probably assuming that people who buy Pontiacs will now buy Buicks, GMC, and Chevy's where they can make more money per car.

So are they keeping Saturn, as it was rumored that they were going to kill Saturn.

That would be interesting. Saturn is the only GM brand I would bother with anymore...

Had too many bad Chevy's over the years to even consider them...

I think Saturn is being sold off. So they are not keeping it but not killing it either.

Too bad about Pontiac. The G8 GXP is quite a car. Maybe if they put a V8 in the Solstice it would have been a mover.

                  Buicks

Funny, I see more Buicks. There is even one in my driveway, and my future son in law has one and so does my oldest daughter.

Any profitable cars from the Pontiac line will probably be rebranded as a Chevy. I was never found of Pontiacs, with the exception of the GTO, and the TA. I sure miss the Oldsmobiles thought. I had several of them.

Thinking maybe I should have kept the 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix SE I just traded in Friday. Now it's probably a collector's item. But then again, LOML loves her new 2010 Ford Fusion, Tuxedo Black no less! If she's happy, I'm happy and I no longer worry about her breaking down on the road.

edit: Yea looked at the G8 and the G6. Fusion won out over G6, and the G8, WOW, but more than budget allowed.

Although I hate to see any marques go away I don't see an issue with Pontiac being absorbed into the Chevrolet and Buick lineup. They've been badge engineering for years with these brands.

A few years ago the bright bulbs in marketing in GM decided that the oldsmobile brand had great loyalty among the older generations but fewer young people were buying them. Market research showed that younger people thought of them as aunt martha/uncle fred fuddy-duddy cars. Taken to the extreme they would eventually have no customers.

So they started a campaign where they had new slogan - "Not your Father's Oldsmobile" in an attempt to lure younger buyers.

Well what happened was that the older people felt abandoned and it no longer felt it was their car so they stopped buying and the younger buyers weren't convinced and they didn 't buy either so that's why there's no oldsmobiles made today.

This is what I heard on NPR, too. Maybe they were quoting this article.
