    They Guessed Correctly

on the flu vaccine this year, or so it appears. I have not been nearly as sick this season as my kids and wife were. I've gotten colds when they have, but nothing serious and so far I have not gotten this current bug that is going around. My wife and older daughter were sick last week and my youngest is now on the mend. My folks were also sick last week as were some guys at work. All I got was the sniffles.

You sir have a much better track record with the flu vaccine. I have tried it 3 times in my years, and have gotten the most intense case of the flu shortly thereafter.

    LOML has had similar experiences.

I sometimes wonder if the vaccine is something the distribute nationally, but maybe the influenza strains are a regional thing. Maybe the flu vaccine for New York doesn't work on Texas flu?

It appears that they did guess correctly this year. Last year my area was hit pretty hard by the flu. A few weeks ago, I met with a client who is a well-known MD in the area. He said that there have been very few flu cases in this area this year.

Nobody in my family has had a flu vaccine, ever. Have not had any flu the past 4 years that I can remember.

Am not sure we'd be going for the vaccine this year either.

        Fingers crossed.

Our Doctors have LOML and I get one every year. We are older and retired and being former somokers it is just a safety net. The best thing is we are retired and don't have to go places, like work where the flu is passed around so our exposure is less. I will usually get a mild cold or sinus ifection but that is about it. I can remember the flu going around the office or work place and how many time you got the flu over a season. Some people just wouldn't or couldn't stay home and it would go on and on.

Not so fast, my friend... I've had the flu twice this season, despite my vaccination. My Doc says, based on what he's seen around here, that they "whiffed" on the formula. Perhaps it's a regional thing.

i think your doc just gave you a placebo (no, that's not an opera singer).

I have been getting the shot for the past 10 years (new wife insisted) and haven't had so much as a cold for the entire time. Is it the vaccination, I don't know but prior to getting it every year I used to get the flu at least once and a couple of colds.

We're in the low to moderate range, according to the link. There have been a lot of sick people around here, including my wife and kids. We both had the shot, but I think I just seem to have a good immune system.

Strange how they always know which vaccination they'll need to stock up on before it hits.

I know they've had some misjudged the strain in recent years, but like they say - Knowing that your paranoid, doesn't mean they're not watching you.
