Anyone remember that famous line from the Chiffon Margarine commercial?Heard on the news yesterday that the Fertility Doc also implanted another woman with 4 embriyos and she is 5 months along with quadruplets. She has no health insurance, no job and has been assigned bed rest until the babies are born. Sound familiar. Oh, yeah she is apparently in her late 40s and single.

The Great State of California caps it's payments to medical providers ruthlessly; so it's Kaiser that will be out as well as the taxpayers. Think about that when you contemplate the high cost of medical care and insurance in this country.Kris Freyermuth

Not sure I understand. The great state of california "is its taxpayers". One cannot separate Ca payments from its taxpayers. I wouldn't mind if Kaiser had to bite the bullet on the costs. I wonder how she got into Kaiser's hospital if she didn't have Kaiser insurance?

I think Kaiser now takes Medical patients in some areas. In order for them to have the big trauma centers they had to start taking indigent patients or maybe they have contract with another hospital to take these kind fo cases. That what happened in South Sacramento at Kasier's facility here. The wanted to become a major trauma center they had to start taking everybody in the Emergency center.

I guess my take on it would be that the mother has some obsessive compulsive disorder, where the woman is obsessed with having kids (and having a reasonable number can be a good thing).
In this case the obsessive part would override any common sense about how she would care for them and provide for them. In my opinion in this day and age no single parent could possibly take care of 14 kids - even four would be a tremendous burden.
In the old days, families sometimes had large families but that was with a strong two-parent family, many children never lived until the teens, in rural areas a large family was required to provide the labor for a farm and the help for when the parents became too old to work. Education was scarecely neede to work the farm.
Now we have social scurity and IRA,s 99% of children live to see their 20's. Expensive Education has become a requirement for getting out of the slums an gangs.
Even when they had lots of children the older ones took care of the younger ones. In this case the children are all under the age of, I think, eight. Eight year olds can't take care of 8 newborn infants let alone picture a ten year old taking care of 8 terrible twos.

Yes, I think it's safe to assume that she has some issues. But she's also pretty clever (and not in a good way.) She has played the system like a violin. An excellent investigative account appears in this other thread:

I'm not so sure, Rags. We could be looking at a realife Catch 22.
If she truly IS the "nut case" that you say she is, how long until child protective services comes knocking? (You do have CPS in the Great State, don't you?)
On the other hand, a totally rational individual in her shoes would potentially face fraud charges.
Having people believe that she's a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic could be exactly what she's looking for. It might be enough to hold off any criminal filings, without costing her her kids."I know it when I see it." (Justice Potter Stewart)Comment

I am no lawyer but I don't see any criminal activity although who knows what crazy laws we may have that address this situation in California. I doubt we see any legal action against her, but unless she receives help beyond what the state provides I see no way she can adequately provide for all these children. I do hope that these unfortunate children do not suffer as a result of this woman's decisions.
I stand by my "nut case" evaluation of her and she is welcome to it, free of charge.
