    Laundry Detergent Cost

What do you pay for good laundry detergent these days?
    What's a good brand? What's a good price?

Whatever is on sale in the largest quantity and liquid only. The only 2 things I care about is that it make the clothes smell good and makes them clean. Not brand conscious when it comes to laundry soap.

We only use Tide powder with bleach (it's the color safe one). LOML likes it because it gets our clothes clean. I like it because it comes with a cool scooper that I save when the box is empty, and use it for mixing stains, and dipping out of gallon cans.

Don't know the price, but we use Arm and Hammer liquid. I also add about 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide to colored loads and 1/2 cup to whites.

I like Gain liquid, because it smells good, does a good job, and doesn't aggravate my dermatitis. I know it's not cheap, but performance matters more to me. But, I do buy it in the big jugs, and I stock up when it's on sale.

              Hello Pappy,

What % of H2O2 do you use? Is it the drug store 3% or are you talking 35%?
              Thanks
              Roger

My wife makes her own in large batches about every 6 months. My daughter and I have sensitive skin and it's easier on us. Also, it's way cheaper but (of course) a lot more work.

Another Arm and Hammer user but since I live alone I make a point of not washing any clothes that aren't colored. The occasional need of a white shirt goes to the cleaners.

LOML likes GAIN powder in the giant box. I personally prefer liquid, but hey, I am making my wife happy... She likes to use something called "Fabric Softener" which is quite strange too...

New Wood, I'm thinking you must be New Bachelor or New Divorcee!

                      Just kidding--been there, done that.

I have always done my laundry myself, so when my laundry lady (i.e., ex-spouse) decided to assume laundry duties for another guy it was no big shakes, laundry-wise. I use Gain or Tide with bleach alternative and Downy fabric softener. I buy in bulk on sale, but if I get bargain-price no-name stuff my kids actually complain that their clothes aren't clean and fresh-smelling...

I'm currently auditioning a new laundry lady, by the way. Boy, do her clothes smell nice...

                        Use Tide.
Use about 30-50% less then recommended dosage if load is not that soiled (like color load of slacks and dress shirts).

The one thing that does get used a lot at our house is Oxy-Clean.

It is a champ for stains and really dirt T-Shirts

In that club, but already past the audition process. Don't miss it. Met some very nice women I had good friendships with, but most of the ladies I met were, uh, NUTS!

I actually discovered that my prior laundry lady as you put it, was doing someone else's shorts while I was doing laundry... The door's THAT way and don't let it hit ya in the a&& on the way out...

Of course I was young, and stupid when I hooked up with the MOML (Mistake Of My Life), I only wish I had known that my laundry provider was moonlighting long before I did... I met LOML actually years ago, when I was working my tail off to get through college, and we had several common friends. I think we might have gotten together then, and had a bunch of good years under us by now... Of course that is a what could have been scenario...

I also realized I never answered the cost issue for the OP... Sorry, I just pay what they ask for the quantity I need... I don't pay attention to it. Laundry soap isn't exactly a huge hit to my budget...

We use XTRA it is like $4 for 170 oz and use 1 oz per load and 2oz for heavly soiled stuff .

I cant use Tide or Cheer, Gain and quite a few others as they give me rashes where ever the cloth touches me,found out the hard way, the laundrylady changed soaps a few times and i paid for it in a not so good way.
