The small amount of time I spent in North Texas (Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls) was during the winter. I once attempted to walk down some outdoor stairs, which had a thin covering of ice, slipped on the first step and slid down the remaining 30 something stairs on my butt!

I grew up in Pittsburgh, had no problems with snow or ice. Moved to Oklahoma City for residency. OKC well known for ice storms. One December AM we had one. I got up early, drove slowly, got to the hospital, and discovered I was the only intern that made it. All the rest called off.
realized then that, given 0.10 inches snow or ice, OK and TX pretty much shut down.Comment

I remember that game at the Cotton Bowl. Seems like it may have been U.Houston vs Notre Dame. My cousin got tickets to the game, but they left by half time as it was too cold. Being poor and watching it on TV was much warmer!Comment

Yep, Texas has its share of weird weather. Those northern ice storms make me glad I live on the coast where it freezes here as often as it does in Lucifer's habitat. That is until a hurricane knocks on my door again...Please like and subscribe to my YouTube channel. Please check out and subscribe to my Workshop Blog.Comment

We had a terrible ice storm here last winter. I was without electricity for 10 days. I had to clear my driveway of limbs 3 times before I could out. It sounded like gunfire outside with all of the limbs snapping. I burned 5 large brush piles, and had some trees trimmed because of the damage this fall and now have two more large brush piles to burn. I hope to never go through one like that again.

What we get down here is not snow, it's ice. I've queried every transplanted yankee I've ever met about the secret to driving on it, they all say the same thing, "don't!". These folks were all quite used to driving on snow back home, but ice is a different animal.I put more ice than that in my scotch
( just kidding with you). When you're not used to something like that, it can get pretty scary. I remember talking to my cousin in England one day after they got some snow. It took him three to four time longer to get home. I asked how much snow they got? "Oh", he says," At least two inches"!Comment
