    Scariest thing in North Texas

    Ice

We are having one of those days! It is cold (below freezing) damp and drizzly. So we are experiencing a build up of ice.

Traffic is so bad you have to get an appointment to get into the ditch.

    Come on summer!

I put more ice than that in my scotch( just kidding with you). When you're not used to something like that, it can get pretty scary. I remember talking to my cousin in England one day after they got some snow. It took him three to four time longer to get home. I asked how much snow they got? "Oh", he says," At least two inches"!

That ice is not fun to drive on no matter where you are. I'm waiting for spring training too.

Blah.. don't mention ice. The weather guessers are forcasting we will have 1-3" of snow/sleet followed by 1/4 to 1/2" of ice tomorrow night.

With all the yankees in Dallas nowadays at least half the folks should know what they are doing on ice.

True. But it's the other half that scare the pants off you! Ever had someone pass you (doing 25 mph) at 50 mph, on ice? Happens here in Central Tx all the time. Too many young soldiers!

Better that then other way around. Snow on ice is a terror to drive on. Only hit a patch of " Black Ice" once but that was at 60 mph on the hwy.

Let me guess. After you hit the black ice, you had brown shorts?

It is 28 degrees here now and freezing rain is falling. The only place it looks good is

                          trees or bushes. Bill

Coming out of San Marcos to go to work in Austin the first bridge is over the Blanco River. Had a Mustang lose it as he passed me, bounce off both retainer walls, and end up on his side in the median. He missed me by maybe a foot on the first spin and again by about 3 feet. When the bridges ice over, I take a day of leave.

I lived in the Dallas area from 193-2002 and had my share of ice storms, especially the late 70's and early 80's.

Had a manager that was transferred in from Chicago and we told him about how bad it was when we had an ice storm. He stated that he drove in snow all his life and it didn't bother him. After the first ice storm, he was singing a different tune. He was coming to work and did 2 360 spins on a bridge. Luckily, he was the only one on the road. Everyone else had enough sense to stay home that day.

Anybody remember the Cotton Bowl Ice game in 79 or 80?
