What is your internet speed?

Have been having speed problems with my Comcast broadband(cable-modem). That guy comes in and switches some cable(s) on the splitter, and it seems to have improved.

Tested at 3 different sites with these results (download / upload) :

Mine were in the 5100/5800 DL and 200s (yes 200s) upload EXCEPT for the second one with picking Yokohama as the server and in this case, I got 16,908 DL and 1522 upload.

Using laptop and wireless N.

Those are amazing up speeds. Around here they (Time Warner) cap our up at 512kb/sec. Down is between 5000 and 6000kbps.

I have a wireless laptop and an old desktop hardwired to the router. My desktop is very close to the 8,000/1000 I pay for. My laptop, on the other hand, consistantly downloads way slower. I remember seeing around 3000/750 the last time I checked it. I don't know why this is, but it's always about the same. I tried my work laptop and got the same 3000/750 through the wireless. I even replaced my router after the last one died and the speeds didn't improve much. I have a Linksys WRT110 router.

You might try to hardwire your laptop and recheck just to see if it is any different than via wireless.

I tested at the three sites using DC for location at all three and got the following:

PCPitstop - 4610/492
Speedtest - 2600/481
Speakeasy- 4769/495

I tried various locations on Speedtest and all were around the 2600 speed.

I found it interesting the the slow speed was from a site that was trying to sell you a product to increase your PC speed on the internet --- Hmmmm!!!! Do ya think it would increase if I bought their product??

My Mac is hardwired to the cable modem and I averaged the three sites 9683/1124
I did the same with my wife's IBM laptop which is wireless to the modem and got 7107/1119.

I have the lowest-cost ATT DSL connection I can get, and from my MacBook through Airport Extreme I get around 1486 kb/s download and 314 kb/s upload. Not as fast as you guys, but sure beats dial-up!

Wired is a hair faster, but then I can't sit in the comfy chair to compute...

I'm on Cox Cable in Mesa AZ using a Pre N wireless router to connect my laptop which has a b/g minicard built in.
One factor that slows my test is my telephone is connected to my cable modem using a VOIP adapter. This is hardwired before the router so it uses bandwidth first. What my tests indicate is the left over bandwidth when the phone adapter is idling. It goes down a bit if someone is on the line. and if I were to remove the adapter it would go up.
